- The Pure Rock cpu cooler is better than the Hyper Evo

- that monitor you selected isnt that good  ... didnt know you would buy a new monitor. In that case I would switch to a 380X GPU and put the money you saved into a 144 Hz Freesync TFT. Contact  @Hanzo_San he also used that combo in his new build and he can tell you how he feels about 144Hz + Freesync. http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/compare/aoc-monitor-g2460pf,nixeus-monitor-nxvue24a/

I actually haven't picked up the monitor yet. Going to be getting it next month. Leaning towards going with the Nixeus NX-VUE24A 144Hz 24.0"

In the meantime I'm slumming it with this disaster of a monitor.

I actually expected there to be screen tearing or not being able to display greater than 75 fps (although that may or not be the case not sure, since the game is reporting higher numbers), or some other issue but so far so good. Still looking forward to getting the Freesynch monitor and seeing the difference next month. But in terms of the 380X, I'm very very happy thus far with it's performance. :)

@Stiltzin you can probably use that wifi adapter I linked works great and costs less. Might want to just buy a 256gb SSD instead of 120 gb SSD + 1 TB HDD if you don;t have that many games. Get an 850 Pro or Evo. For video cards if you don't mind refurbs with warranties you can save some money there too: check here and here out when you buy; their stock comes and goes so what is available weekly generally changes.

I think you can get a better deal on that 120GB SSD.

Maybe spend a few more bucks on a Hitachi drive since they never die but just don't get a seagate

You might also want to downgrade your CPU to previous gen (hardy any performance loss) if you have a micro enter nearby you since they sell CPUs for a cheaper price. Then you'll have to change your mobo and ram to ddr 3 but ram speed doesn't affect anything.

coming from a noob so take everything with a massive grain of NaCl

Ok this is where I am at.  A bit over my price cap but I want to do this right and I can always work a few weekends.  Any suggestions past this would be great.  I appreciate all the help guys!

I'd go Samsung 250GB SSD other than that looks decent, you going to need a headset?

Also since this is your first build, I'd suggest going with a Fractal Design case. Folter suggest I get the case and its awesome, followed this guide made it easy.

Also, I'm pretty sure Kinguin has cheap Win7 codes (<20 usd) so if you have an installation disk then I'd pick one of those up then upgrade to Win10 if you are so inclined.

Hi, again. Seems things are getting away from you a bit cause alot of people are saying alot of stuff. Lets try to tl:dr some of it.

CPU choices: i5-6500 vs older gen i5-4xxx/5xxx

I'd stick with the newer 6500 simply because you get to use DDR4 and it has better future compatibility

DDR3 VS DDR4: Read above^

GPU: GTX970 vs R9 380X

Here you need to decide where your budget is at. A 970 goes for $300 and is roughly 10-30% more effective than a 380X. However a 380X goes for ~$205 and will still play WoT on just about maxed settings and is a very good bang/$ card especially coupled with a freesync monitor.

SSD/HDD: 120GB+1TB combo vs 250GB

I'd suggest going with only 1 250GB SSD. It will cost you the same as a ssd+hdd combo but to be honest if your not going to have tons of games a big HDD isn't worth it. Everyone streams everything now anyway. A bigger SSD should hold windows+10 games quite easily and will be much snappier than having most games on a HDD. Also adding another SSD later is the easiet upgrade you can make.

Otherwise all is looking good. Only thing you might want to consider changing is the steelseries apex because it is a non-mechanical keyboard and go for some entry level mx-switch keyboard like corsair k65 or logitech g710+.

As for windows. If you want to keep it simple just got for the straight win10. It will cost you ~$50 more than finding a old win7 key but will save you the time and trouble of hunting down a win7 disc and key and also not having to install windows twice(7 once and 10 once)

Ok so I suppose I will go with the 380x.   A little lesser on the gpu, but still a huge upgrade from what I have now. I will put in a better heat sink and get that better wifi connector.

I went with the Nixeus monitor as well.  Just didn't change it in the parts list.  http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemNumber=N82E16824267005

Can I ask why that specific case?

Also make sure to get the 380X not just the regular 380 if you want to go that route. Here is the computer I just put together (with the help of Folter and the guys here) and link to the specific card purchased. Have had it going since Friday and runs like a dream. The video card is more than enough for WoT and I figure if down the road need more I could always upgrade the GPU to something a lot more powerful, instead of something marginally better now.

Yea the window on the side is cool, but imo, like the Fractal Design better. 4 USB connections and power button/reset on the top as opposed to the left side of the case, depending on where you put your computer and where you sit may or may not be an issue with headset, etc. Guess in the end, it's just preference though.
