I Need Your Help! Wotlabs Edition!

So as most know by this point, the Gold League team I'm on, Team eClipse, is going to Poland during April. We will be leaving the 5th of April and coming back the 10th of April. The problem with this, however, is that I am already at the maximum amount of days allowed for absences in school (I am a high school student in New Jersey). This means that I have a possibility of either going to summer school, or having to repeat my Junior year, which as we all know is not a good thing.

So what do I ask of the community of the World of Tanks North America server? Simple! Sign this petition, and leave a good note (please), and hopefully I can use this as a way to avoid having to repeat my Junior year, even as an A/B student! Thanks to all who sign, and if you don't, kindly tell me why you will not!

Unless your absence levels are ridiculously beyond the maximum, I don't see any reason for them to block you if they have any common sense. The curriculum for high school during one week has no influence on your grades and since you're looking at high single digit to low double digit flight times, not to mention any airport waiting, you can literally do the entire week's work in all classes while going from Murrica to Europe. With plenty of time to spare, even.

8 days before Vegas (3 of them were actually me being sick, 1 was because of me having a huge test in English and wanting to study for it, and the rest were me just not wanting to go)- 12 after. The limit PER CLASS before you fail it is 12, but because we have double periods (meaning we only have half of our classes every other day (Monday we have all of our classes, Tuesday/Thursday is 1/3/5/7, and Wednesday/Friday is 2/4/6/8), I may or may not get over the limit to the point where I have to do credit restoration (summer school) or having to repeat the grade- the school is so inconsistent with the rule that I want to make sure by just having all 4 days excused, to make my life much easier.

As stated below, New Jersey is extremely strict for an unknown reason and I most likely will not be excused, but it's still worth a try.

Seems odd. If credit is a problem, why not tell them you'll do an extra history report on Warsaw (assuming that's where you're going) or something along those lines? It might be a boring couple of hours on the trip but Poland is one of the richest areas in the world in terms of historical shenanigans and there should be plenty of opportunities for some cheeky pictures. Besides, pretty much everyone on the planet agrees that cultural exchange is beneficial for a student, including the US.

How bad is summer school anyway? Might be worth taking the hit just for an intercontinental trip and playing games. Trust me, those summer vacations aren't missed all that much by most adults anyway 'cause money is more fun.

Couple quick notes for replies that should help anyone reading the thread:

• I'm not choosing the game over school, I'm merely advancing my knowledge/experience in something I will try to be employed in when I'm older (if I'm not still gaming).
• Fuck begging, I want to at least attempt to make my case heard, at the very least I'd like to get our school board to change their attendance rules.
• I already offered to write up a paper for every class I have, and that was avoided. Basically the argument is "if we do this for you, we have to do it for everyone else", when realistically, I'm the only person in my school to have ever done something for money and traveled to another country to make money off of what I do.

Credit restoration is a problem as I have to pay for it. Not only that, but it will look bad on transcripts (apparently, as I was told by a cousin of mine), and that will only hurt me.

Pretty much.  The writeup makes you sound like a whiny little bitch too: "I should be allowed to do this because... I want to, and these Internet people support me!"

Give a more detailed, supportive argument laying out why you should be allowed an exception.  Are students granted exceptions for other competition like sports, music etc.?  Lay out the kind of things you've been learning, and how you've kept up a solid academic record while doing so.  Any other extracurricular activities, job etc.?  If you can make a convincing argument that you're mature enough to be capable of getting caught up you'll have a much better chance.

First off MP, grats on your wins and WGLNA success. Second, screw the petition, ask for leave on sporting grounds (there'll be provisions in there) and if that fails, you're still getting 'some' prize for Poland, so use the money there to pay for the summer courses. It's High School, you're not going to fuck your future over whatever you do, sans burning the building down. 

Alternatively, ask if you can tele-attend or cover attendance by watching recorded class time (Some universities record their classes and stream them after).

Yea...no. If you want to skip school that's fine. I skipped the fuck out of countless days, a lot of them just cuz i had better things to do. I did however suffer the consequences.

frankly I fail to see why someone who has been invited to the grand finals of the Esports league of one of the most popular MMOs in Russia and the EU, and has been given an all expenses paid trip there to compete for his share of 300 grand, something which frankly is a pretty nice achievement, shouldn't be allowed to go because "oh noes he'll miss a week of school"

However, you want to be an ass, so I might as well be one too. You tell me you skipped class, as has every other individual who has ever attended highschool, and don't bother arguing otherwise. The fact is that I missed a total of FOUR DAYS for reasons of just skipping, and that doesn't mean I shouldn't be allowed to do something I'm literally a professional in. Sports teams are allowed leave of absence in most schools (no team in my school is good enough to go anywhere, so I don't know if the exception would be there), and most athletes skip school a lot- and I would know this as I've played physical sports my entire life.

If you don't want to support me, then say so. Don't attack my supporters or the petition because you don't agree with it. It makes you look like an ass, and as you called me earlier in the week, a pubescent twatwaffle.

Because a school does not care how good you are at things that it does not care about (things like being king of farting, able to play a flute using your ass, or pixel tanks).

Because it doesn't have the full details of how this event might be a meaningful experience, as highlighted by your spiel.

 

I wish the OP luck, but I will not sign the petition until it's rewritten. You want a bye for your attendance, you have to write like you actually have good sense, in the style that shows you are a serious, independent, thinking learner. The form of how you present your case matters as much as the matter/meat of your argument.
