New Physics Observations - an inverted view

Recommended Posts

Now that it has been a couple of weeks, what notable observations have you guys made regarding the new physics?  How many tanks have you flipped over, seen flipped, helped un-flip, turtle of death, etc?

I feel like I am seeing a tank rolled every 2-3 games, almost always light tanks.  The other thing I noticed was that I've seen mostly survivable side flips as opposed to roof-flips, even on tanks that don't really have much of a side to keep them from going all the way over.  I watched bluestealth barrel roll all the way over and keep driving with no damage the other night in stream, seems legit.  The biggest tank I've seen go over was a 50t, that bitch was impossible to roll back over in my bulldog too.

My 12t rolled over faster then an empty beer can on a windy day, but it always perched on its side.  A couple of times it took a very small rock at fairly low speed to flip me.  I suspect this one might get dialed back a bit in the future.

When you see a team mate rolled over, do you help them or just point and laugh?  I've seen several instances of tunnel visioning pubbies not righting a tipped team mate, once that definitely cost us a game.

I find myself constantly flipping over in meds and in mobile TDs but that may party due to me almost never driving fast tanks

I set a T10 up for a sideways kick the other day in my 4502B - a teammate was kind enough to finish the job and knock him over. '

Otherwise, haven't run into it a lot. But I generally avoid light tanks cause I hate them.

I barrel-rolled my MT-25 just by turning... No ramps or anything, just turned, did a neat barrel roll and continued on driving without any dmg. First time that happened..

Falling damage seems to be pretty huge now, cliffs you could previously drive down with no damage taken are now deathtraps, I wish they'd nerf that a bit.

Nerfing the damage done would be great but overall tanks now have so much more access to areas and can actually drive on almost straight cliffs (lol).

Seeing yellow baddies in ELCs pull off the same U turn maneuvers. Which is fine because they usually do it thinking it makes them look cool when in actuality it just makes them easier to hit.

Light tanks are now dangerous as shit to drive, you have to be very careful about flipping or just sliding at a bad time and place.

I keep getting easy kills on shitters who think it'll be clever to try to parkour when you're shooting at them. Turns out bottom armor is actually quite thin.

Righted a flipper before he even realized he had flipped yesterday, it was really fast and easy to do. They probably made it that way on purpose.

Play a tier 2, get Mittenguard. You know the part where every one starts on insanely steep hills and has to rush down? And how it was already dangerous af even before this physics crap because of all the nooblets careening down alongside you mashing their face on their keyboards? Yeah. I'm starting to think the idea for new physics came from, "hey, wouldn't it be hilarious if tanks could flip on this crappy map we made where they start at the top of this hill?"

I managed to flip my CDC yesterday... it wouldn't turn over. So I went from full health to 0 health in 21 secs. An enemy 113 saw me... He just stood there, in awe as my timer went down. He didn't even shoot at me...

He didn't touch me, probably thinking... "I wonder what kind of fire works happens afterwards..." or was trying to get up off the floor from laughing so hard.

Really, all it takes is driving on the side of a hill, or crashing into the side of a hill wile driving. I did a couple barrel rolls since the patch, but never was I flipped upside down, on turret. Felt like sh*t. Couldn't do anything. At least if you fall on your side, you can shoot stuff. Upside down = do nothing, but watch. Pinged for help too =T  no one came. So sad, so lonely, never again T.T

Himmelsdorf, going down the hill going north, my AMX 13-90.

I was going around 66 75 and made a sharp ass turn on the first lane left and sort of slightly hit the small bump there. OMG don't ever do that...

Actually, it was a half barrel roll, followed by a sort of angled front flip and another half barrel roll post-mortem. Still cool :).

Was fun.

If they gave us the ability to flip tanks, I want the ability to run over tanks. I.E. Tiger II be able to run over ELC.... If we can land on tanks and do -1-1-1-1-1-1-1, AND, now be able to flip tanks... give us the ability to run over other tanks.

i.e. tanks that are within a certain height, there is over match, and the taller tank can run over.

.... hmm..... I bet some people wouldn't even be able to make it out of cap circle during start of the game lol.

Playing an ELC or any fast tank is a bit different as you now slide into position if you want to stop and aim at something. Definitely will take some getting used to.

See this for examples of fun with ELC physics-

I've only ever managed to do it on purpose, and haven't flipped in a pub match. I've had some close ones but I've never actually flipped or rolled a tank.

I've seen a few flip over, but not that many.

Haven't seen any light tanks flip, or had that happen to myself.

Only two heavies so far. Same map(Overlord), different match. OI Exp. and M103 of all things. Both times I were in a perfect opportunity to just sit there and farm damage.

It's very easy to get "nicked" on buildings however with the new physics. Feels a bit like Warthunder in that respect.
Has gotten me killed a couple times in lights, but I suppose I will learn with time.

The new physics was an annoying adjustment, we didn't NEED new physics, we didn't ASK for new physics but we got them anyway.  Still not game breaking though so we're good I feel.

As for random flipping and shit, I find myself flipping my tank whenever I run over small bumps at high speeds in meds, very rarely to almost never in heavies.

I did however pull an e-brake on Overlord by the cliff over the beach.......my ass swung out and I knocked an allied bulldog to his death.......sorry friend :'(

Overall, the new physics opening more areas of the map seems a nice addition.

I find the hardest part of new physics is the non-intuitive interaction with buildings and sharp sloped rocks.  Where you used to be able to push off a building now you climb it...and the shifting physics turns the tank in unexpected directions with driving input, making getting out of the situation even more difficult.

To date for me: two barrel rolls, two overturns for death, two on sides for eventually death, one on side with a kindly rescue from a Churchill , and several close calls.  Attempted two rescues myself, one successful.  E brake turns are fun but not used in combat yet.

I made a few barrel rolls when going downhill at high speed, but that was kinda ``expected``, did see some ppl fail spectacular (full hp tanks jumping from ridge to die etc)

Overall the changes are imo massive overblown, some tanks seem slower, others faster, so its probably mostly placebo effect...

I suck now in my ELC, its so dangerous, I did a barrel roll like 10 times already... just by turning. Also Ive fallen from a cliff a few times. But afterall, doing 180 degree sharp turn in my ELC and then shooting those dumb TDs in the ass is just priceless.

It seems the point at which you start to take fall damage is much more forgiving as long as you land on both tracks. Getting off the hill on, say, Mines for free is much easier to do than before. However, once you break past that point of no damage, the amount of damage you take increases much quicker. It's a net positive in my book.
