UK/EU WoTLabbers – Sell me your used PC Parts!

Recommended Posts

So right now I want to kill myself half the time I play WoT, any other game, or just try to do more than 2 things at once with my MacBook Pro. Because it's a Mac, I can't even install texture compression. Today, I had a run of 5 or less fps over 90 minutes, which was tilting as fuck, making me play even worse than my scrub ass usually does (I'm so tilted right now that I'm getting 500 WN8 games). That kind of made me decide that maybe it's time to build a PC. Unfortunately for me, I'm a poor-ass university student without a job (don't even own a prem tank lel), so money is kind of an issue, and I can't buy all new parts (at least, if I want a decent build).

Dear UK/EU (especially London) WoTLabs community, I'd be extremely grateful if you were to offer to sell me your used PC parts, so I don't have to sperg off in the chat about having lower fps than Gandaran's old PC. Right now I don't have a specific build in mind yet, so anything goes, I'm starting from scratch. I'll update this post if anything develops.

Edit1: Folterknecht has advised me against using a used PSU and HDD. That's the first thing I've bought into.

Edit2: Swoomcy is selling me some of his shit, just need him to upgrade his GPU too :frenchy:, still need a mini ATX case

@Folterknecht Besides the case, is there anything I can buy used?

I think I made it pretty clear - no used PSUs and HDDs and I linked these specific models for certain reasons: the PSU is a high quality unit and the HDD if bought from a reputable seller, certainly doesnt come used out of a data center under a false label.

Every other component can be purchased used - try to negotiate a 14 day return policy on the motherboard and GPU. And btw - 2x 4GB DDR3 are dirt cheap new.

  • 80£ CPU (i5 2500K or 3570K) - used
  • 70£ (my guess) Z68 or Z77 - used
  • 30£ 2x 4GB DDR 3 1600 MHz CL9 - new
  • 26£ for a CPU cooler - new
  • 65£ PSU - new
  • 40£ for a HDD - new
  • 40£ for a cheap case  - new (used also works, just make sure you have at least 300mm mounting space for GPUs and 165mm for CPU coolers). Get an ATX mid-tower.

->>> 350£ without a dedicated GPU. The CPUs listed above come with an integrated GPU that is only a little better than the one in your MacBook (click the link for iGPU performance numbers).

GPU - spend up to 100 £ on a GTX 770 or R9 280X, used

btw - do you have a monitor?

Forgot to mention, I don't have any peripherals besides a shitty office mouse which may or may not have multiple dents from being thrown across the room.

well, shit ...

whats your budget (incl. stretching it over a few months - in which case you 'd buy the monitor and Keyboard/Mouse first, pc without GPU next and GPU last)?

To be honest, I don't have a set budget, but I'd like to keep the cost as low as possible. Say, £380?

a new TFT 23-24" 1080p costs around 90£ and that is the real low end. Add to that the system without GPU, I wouldnt go much lower cause the performance drop off is starting to become pretty big - 350 and you are locking at 550£ incl TFT and GPU.

That gets you something solid and capable for a few years. Go below that - and you guys leave me alone with AMDs AM3(+) rubbish :# - and you end up with something that struggels to keep up today, and is totally unsuited for games outside of browsers within 1-2 years.

Welp, I guess I'll have to see if anyone is willing to sell their used stuff for less. I guess it's probably worth future-proofing it a little bit.

What's the target performance? If you just want something that runs WoT at 60fps at ~mid settings then you can throw a mediocre GPU in an i3 box. If you want to run most modern games with decent performance then it's tough to work with second-hand parts.

Old 19" monitors can be acquired for peanuts if you're not picky.

I don't really care about graphics quality, every game I've ever played, I've turned the settings to minimum. Peanuts sounds good

@steveaus oh, HD 3000, no wonder.

Kinda shocked because I know someone who plays tanks on a bootcamped MBP and he gets 120 frames on medium settings

I was wondering about it too because even my old toasterwaffle runs at 8fps (more if its not overheating which is never) and it has worse specs for the most part

Me and steve were kinda discussing this. Since I'm upgrading to Skylake very soon(ordering part by part) my old yet still good system will need a new home. :doge:

If nobody local won't be interested then I may as well sell it to him(price would probs stand the same, just less hassle). That's mobo+OC'd CPU(stable)+ram+water cooler. PSU I won't use but I wouldn't touch it with a stick(hence I'm getting a new one).

That includes:

GA-P55M-UD2 Mobo

i7 860@3.5GHz stable OC(not turbo shit)

8GB DDR3@1333MHz RAM

Some german CPU watercooler idk the exact model of, cost me ~70€, cool temperatures most of the time :doge: But not compatible with 1151 hence I'm ordering a new CPU cooler for my new stuff.
