Spoiled by high tiers

Recommended Posts

Have any of you experienced being spoiled by high tier tanks? I'm referring specifically to tiers 9 and 10 and some tier 8s. Ever since I got my very first tier 9 (Soviet T-10) and having played it almost exclusively for around 250 games, I am now really having a hard time wanting to even play any tanks whatsoever below tier 8. This is not a good sign I think because like I said, the T-10 is my only tier 9 which means I still have to grind out so so many other lines, like for example I'm currently trying to grind the American mediums. If I could, I would literally free xp through every single line just to get to the high tiers and then stay there. The biggest thing I've noticed with the T-10 is that the tank just doesn't get in your way, or at least nowhere near as much as any other tank I've played. I'm not fighting my own tank while fighting my opponents. It's a whole different experience and level of enjoyment, and my stats show that. My performance in the T-10 is like night and day compared to all the other tanks I've played up to this point.

I guess the reason I'm posting this is not just to somewhat vent but to see if I can find some motivation to descend back into lower tiers in order to grind up, again. Maybe some of you have experienced what I have but have been successful in going back to low tiers and starting again. I would really appreciate any advice. Thank you!

PS - My apologies if this thread may be in the wrong section of the forum. I've looked through different section and this one seemed like the most appropriate.

This is why I dont play my 140 anymore. It takes way less skill than other tanks to win in. It simply performs best or 2nd best in every scenario, and that means you dont have to plan to play for your tanks niche. As long as you dont yolo to hard you can fight other tanks at there own game and stay competitive.  This is also the reason a ton of the best players love them is they can beat anyone on any map with them if they play right.

When I played it I wasnt great. I was 20% worse than now I feel. And my stats in it are as good as anything else almost. It simply is way to good at almost every role.

All Rus meds have against them is depression but the way the maps are made, they almost always make ways for you to reverse aim on hills or side depress or use the lower sides. -5 is harder but, -6 pretty much can do anything I need.

DPM characters or vehicles in other games really struggle in other ways and the Ru meds dont. Look at the STB shit gun handling. Its very bad. But the 140`s 320 alpha isnt really bad. TBH if they made it 280 the guns would still be great. ROF is so fast you can start tracking multiple tanks or with guys with no rep skill you can shoot 1 shot for DMG and one for tracking them.

Compare it to everything except the 62a, the 140`s turret is amazing. It doesnt have a huge tumor to pen, its still well angled and the thin overmatch spot is a tiny strip that you have to aim for that disapears when its leaned back. Everything else is godmode compare that to turret which can be penned

Next is there camo, the only other tanks in game that sneaky are sift as shit. AMX30 or Batchat vs a 140 is night and day. So in camo role its as good as anything.

All in all the 140 does nothing bad and is in every med role the 2nd best, if not first.

I try to play things that challenge me more and it has made me better. Playing the AMX30b was a blast and made me much more patient. STB makes you play much smarter tactically as you have to plan not to get in a true brawl with Rus meds because even though it has the best nato turret, it isnt shit compared to the Rus ones.

I can only hope the re balance gives us the real Amx30 or M60a1 that have weakish hulls but amazing turrets we deserve. I was really upset about them making theAMX30 so blah. It has the meh stats it would deserve if it had a great turret, so im hoping it will come.

Its funny even the 50/51 takes much more planning than a Rus med do, i n a RU med you can just go Yolo and figure out how to use its amazing all rounded to fight an win.

Low tiers are cancer once you understood how the game works. Fighting against your own tank is a very good expression for that. The only tanks i play for fun below T9 right now are the SuperP and the T 20. Everything else is just grinding for missions or to get to a vehicle I can actually work with and that's unfortunately the only motivation i can offer you. Many tanks are worth the grind nevertheless.

Option 2: don't yolo but plan your actions and learn how to get the most out of the platform. This is very difficult to achieve and much fun at the same time.

Yes, I have heard and read many times that lower tiers are cancer and now I actually have a great understanding of why that is after having tasted tier 9. Don't get me wrong, tier 9 and 10 have cancerous elements too, same ones that transcend all tiers, but low tiers present you with cancerous elements not even coming from your opponents or teammates but simply from yourself, your tank. This amplifies the overall crappy feeling of playing them. I now see playing low tiers as paying your dues to be able to enjoy high tiers.

Thanks for your input. I have feeling that I will simply need to buckle down and grind through. Funny enough though, I'm actually going through the T20 right now and am yet to find anything to appreciate about this tank aside from its gun depression and speed. I keep reading what a great vehicle it is but I'm yet to realize and understand its supposed other positives. I would actually gladly take less depression and speed for improvement in gun handling which is just awful, in my opinion of course.

I noticed that I started hating low tiers around the time I started collecting more tier 8+ tanks and high tier scouts, yes.

The only low tiers I play now are the ELC when a platoonmate wants tier 6, or the Cruiser IV if I'm having a bad day and want to stomp on noobs and bad sealclubbers

I can't really play below T8 anymore without getting frustrated. Mid tier match length, mid tier meta, mid tier arty, mid tier balance, mid tier players, mid tier derp guns, mid tier HP pools... it's all just a pain in the ass to me. Sometimes I'll go down to T6 or so just to get something different from T8/9/10, but it's hard to stick around like I used to back before I had a garage full of high tiers to choose from.

Sadly I don't think WG is going to do anything about it, they seem very reluctant to do anything major to low/mid tier balance. I can still hope, though. A few map tweaks here, a few arty tweaks there, a couple derp guns removed and some HP pools rebalanced (350 hp TDs vs 180-300 alpha guns...) and lower tiers could be a lot more interesting.

The jump in tank quality is just so dramatic from tier 8 to 9 than between any other tiers and I think that's why this feeling arises. When I arrived into tier 9 I honestly thought to myself that my game was going to take a step back while I adjust to the change in game play that I've read about since on the average the players are generally better at high tiers. So I was readying for this drop off in my game but the opposite happened. For one I have been improving as a player leading up to tier 9 but I wasn't prepared just how good the T-10 was going to be. I was suddenly pulling unicum games left and right and managing to maintain that level of performance for almost 250 games and counting. It's just a pleasure to play.

It's because:

a) you can carry bloodred 10s in a 9 better than an 8

b) top kek turret/side

c) top 1/2 T9 heavy

Low/mid tiers are far derpier and the embodiment of chaos.

Tier 9/10 is less RNG (with notable exceptions like the 183) and more skill.

To me it always was the opposite. In lower tiers, I could be the hero whenever I wanted to. Tier 9/10 felt like a chore: pretty much forced to brawl every time and arty focusing me in every game, forcing me to do the same boring shit every game. No tank stats could compensate - trading gun handling for lack of arty/weak arty? fuckyes.

I was farming wn8 in my AMX30 Saturday. That med is really good, I am finding myself enjoy tier 9 a lot more then any other tier for some reason (except E25). Planning to go back an start collecting tier 9's that I remember enjoying.
