computer is dead looking for replacement suggestions

Recommended Posts

My 3 year old Mobo/ and I5 CPU is dead. Im looking for a relatively mid-10 motherboard that can support 8-12GBs of RAM, 24 pins power outlet, and is relatively new enough to support i5 6000s series of CPU. I have a salvaged CX600 Corsair power supply,EVGA  950 SC graphic card, and two coolmaster fans/heatsink from my old computer that is working. Sadly, replacing the old Mobo/CPU/RAM is going to cost more than the old computer combined. So Im currently looking for suggestions for Mobo, CPU, and ram given the ram is tied to the Mobo.

  • What CPU model exactly (your old one)?
  • how much RAM ( and number of sticks - the old ones)?

And how do you know the old CPU/RAM/Mobo setup is faulty? Did you crosstest with a different PSU?

In order for anyone to help you, you need to provide all of your specifications.

Go to pcpartpicker.com and find your parts, and copy and paste the permalink here.

It doesnt even post after I did a bareboned boot with just the CPU/RAM/mobo/PSU plugged in using another PSU of the higher output with the same 24 pins. I used another Monitors is secure plugged.  I already brought a new Cmos battery and replaced the VGA/DVI plug with a known working set.

Option 1 - reusing your old RAM and getting a decent CPU cooler and case. Especially the later is somewhat important, considering your old one might contain proprietary mounting solutions, making upgrading a pain in the ass.

You can bring the price dowm a further 70$, if you go with a i5 4460.

Option 2 - all the latest Skylake things

Not really that much faster.

I think cheapest solution is to grab some 1155 board. You won't get as much performance as upgrade will cost you, so if only MBO is dead, go for used board (i think you can grab some for small bucks) like H61/H65 and salvage whole PC for now.
