Why is removing a laptop drive not a simpler process?

Recommended Posts

I mean, it's pretty easy now - just undo one or two screws holding the cover on, remove a couple screws holding the drive mount in place, then slide it out.  The actual connection is not difficult to remove at all, just slides into place.

So why don't they do away with the screws altogether?  The battery isn't screwed into place on either of my laptops; it has two spring latches and just swings out.  If they made laptop drives accessible from the side with just a latch, you could just slide them out without a screwdriver.

Maybe I'm shamefully lazy, it just seems like they could have done something besides screws.

you'd hate having my laptop, you have to remove the entire bottom panel and the optical drive to get to the HDD.

Id imagine they do it so retards (most people) have to buy a new laptop every time they run out of HardDrive space

Because they dont expect people to replace drives on something thats not really supposed to be worked on...

That would suck.

On many laptops HDD is few screws away (like 2 for plastic, and 2/4 for drive itself), IMHO that is one of the easiest parts to replace.

Sometime is tuck under (some Dell notebooks, some netbooks...) but those are rare examples.

Sure, it's not too hard on mine.  It just seems like they could have go a small step further and made the things quickly swappable.  Pop one out, pop another in.

If easier means few screw less yes. But they left it that way because of cost and you don't want loose HDD.

But that's one of many. I liked old Asus laptops just for that. Plain simple and you can access everything.
