How to reinstall Chrome on my HDD (not SDD)

Recommended Posts

I've done some Google searches and all I seem to get is that I need some 3rd party software in order to install Chrome on my second drive (HDD). I don't want to install it on my SDD.

Is there an easier way to do this?

Thanks for the help...

Just move the file from one drive to another?

(though chrome only takes 50mb or so of space iirc, so idk why you would want to trasfer it)

Let me guess...you're worried that all the writes and reads of cached files will impact the longevity of your drive?

Long story short, you probably don't need to worry: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/06/consumer-grade-ssds-actually-last-a-hell-of-a-long-time/

Longer story: Unless you are have some kind of automated software driving your Chrome browsing to brand new pages every second it is highly unlikely you will exhaust your SSD read/write capacity before you upgrade to a new drive for non-apocalyptic reasons.

It's pretty close, actually. My main worry is because I usually keep some 10-20 tabs (which I intend to get around to, eventually) open on my Chrome, which have to be saved to drive and then relaunched every time I close and (later) open Chrome.

I suppose the write/read is not significant enough to kill my hard drive fast, but I was just curious to know if there's a way to get Chrome installed on the HDD without much fuss.

Thanks for the answers though. I think I'll manage the tabs by bookmarking instead, rather than leaving them open.

I would just not worry my friend. Premature optimisation is the root of all evil..
