Advice on first PC build

Recommended Posts

Requirements

- 1080p @ 60 FPS (max or close to max settings) for games Civ6, WoT, FO4, Skyrim, GTA V. Maybe streaming/casting some WoT games.

- Running SolidWorks/Autodesk Inventor/AutoCAD

- Budget ~ 1000 Euros

- Preferably silent, efficient and not an oven I can fry jews or myself in

- Not interested in OC

- Not interested in SLI/Crossfire

- Don't care about the looks as long as it's not pink and burns my eyes.

- Need a display

- Waiting for price drop is an option

I know nothing about MOBOs, PSUs, cases, fans, HDD/SDD connections, displays = pls halp meh :'(

In addition, I need an amplifier for Yamaha NS-s34 speakers (8 ohms, 120 watts) or RT Rigonda speakers (8 ohms, 100 watts). Since no one bothers to add proper specifications to their products these days, I have no idea what to buy. Budget ~150 - 250 Euros.

Your suggestions?

After realizing you needed a monitor - http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/NgVbhq

You can always buy an SSD later if you want.

Note: If you buy these parts when on sale you can easily add an SSD. The 6600k can be OC'd later if you prefer. Trust me. You will want to :)

Edit: OH you need a display

Do you want all the components to be brand new? Or you could go for used stuff, ebay, etc?

I would prefer new components. Less hassle (generally).

What about i5-6600 (not K)? Is the K version worth it if I don't OC?

What about GTX-1060? I understand that 1070 is miles ahead and future proof, but it seems a bit like an overkill for 1080p.

I considered dumping HDD entirely and going straight for 2 SSDs. A smaller one for OS and another one for storing pornography games. Something like ~100 GBs and ~500 GBs. I have lived with 500GB HDDs for ages and I have never ran into limited storage problems.

Ok, won't happen. I will get banned after first stream because of my inner nazi right hand syndrome :(

x60 series are almost always obsolete with next gen.

You can just drop the 2GB WD Black for a 1GB and get a small SSD if you'd like.

Decent build, but OP specified silent so I'd swap out the 212 EVO for a Gelid Tranquillo for roughly the same price, plus a Define S is noticeably quieter than a S340 for about a fiver more.

Latvia.

I use this page https://www.salidzini.lv/ to compare prices, but it's only in Latvian.

"shit"

That makes all partpicker or other central european price comparisons useless. The bigger online shops in germany deliver to Poland, but the baltic states ...???

What about Amazon do you use that?

Originally had a NZXT Liquid cooler until I realized he needed a monitor.

This was roughly my build (05.2016. ~1kEUR):

  1. ASUS Z170-P USB3.1/GL/M.2/SATA600/DVI/HDMI Z170 ATX Mainboard Sockel 1151
  2. Intel Core i5-6600 4x3.3GHz 6MB-L3 Turbo/IntelHD Sockel 1151 (Skylake)
  3. 16GB (2x8GB) Corsair Vengeance LPX Schwarz DDR4-2133MHz CL13 (CL13-15-15-28) RAM
  4. Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1-Gaming WF 4GB GDDR5 Grafikkarte 2xDVI/HDMI/3xDP
  5. HyperX Savage SSD 480GB MLC 2.5zoll SATA600
  6. WD Blue WD10EZEX - 1TB 7200rpm 64MB 3.5zoll SATA600
  7. Corsair Vengeance V550M ATX12V 2.4 Netzteil 80+ Bronze Teilmodular 120mm Lüfter
  8. Cooltek CT X5 Midi Tower ATX Gehäuse schwarz USB3.0
  9. Arctic Gehäuselüfter ARCTIC F12 PWM 120 mm, 4-pin

I have the 6600 with the stock cooling. The SSD is a bit overkill but the monitor and the windows is not in.

I hope it helps.

PSU 64€

6600K - 233€

Motherboard - 116€ (leaving you options open in the future - OC, SLI )

16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 RAM - 50-60€ order together with other parts (example)

CPU Cooler - 33€ BeQuiet Pure Rock

Case - 65€ (Fractal Denie S - windowless version, sound dampening)

SSD - 250GB Samsung 850Evo 88€ (use your old HDD as secondary drive)

GPU - 277€ That's where they try to milk you guys (same happening here in germany). Looking at the current prices in lativa ... go GTX970. Same performance as RX 480 and GTX1060 in 1080p gaming. This Zotac model has 5 years warrenty.

TFT - Dell 23" 1080p 165€

1096€

1050€ if you go with an other CPU and motherboard. But that would mean loosing ~10-20% CPU performance in case you overclock (4.5GHz).

Thank you for suggestions, I will consider them.

If I understand correctly, the MOBOs with Z offer SLI/Crossfire and overclocking support, but are more expensive? What about MOBO size? I see ATX, E-ATX, mATX, mini-ATX, micro-ATX and Wecouldn'tcomeupwithadecentsizemeasurementsystemfoMOBOssowefuckeditup-ATX. I guess I can use the mentioned pcpartpicker and it will scream if I choose incompatible MOBO/case sizes?

What about Zotac GPUs? Their products seem cheaper than MSI/ASUS/GIGABYTE/EVGA, they use cheaper parts or you simply don't pay for a popular brand name? A ZOTAC GTX1060 (picture below) for ~250 euros yay or nay? It looks like a reference card with an aftermarket cooler slapped on it, but the price makes me dribble. ZOTAC-GeForce-GTX-1060-Mini-6GB-2.jpg

Yes, yes and yes. Though the price difference usually isnt that big.

An ATX case will ofc also support µATX and mITX boards.

260€ for a 1060 is good, though make sure to read some reviews on the exact model. Depending on the implementation of that single fan design, it might actually work pretty good with a 1060 and a 120W TDP.

Zotac has historically been shit compared to MSI / Asus / Gigabyte / EVGA which are the quadfecta for video card brands. When you buy MSI/Asus/Gigabyte/EVGA you pay for superior cooling/overclocking capability and oftentimes backplates for cards. Asus tends to be the most balanced for cooling and overclocking, whereas MSI generally tends to be the best cooled cards, and Gigabyte/EVGA the best overall clockers.

Personally I would not recommend a 1060 in any way shape or form simply due to the fact x60 generations are almost always obsolete once the next gen comes out. The 1070 would do you far more if you are willing to dish out a little bit more and is guaranteed to future proof you for 2-3 generations of cards. It has virtually the same performance as the Titan X/980 Ti.

If you do choose to get a 1060, you are better off just getting a second-hand 970 from someone who wants to sell theirs for ~50-100 euros cheaper. Mind you the 1060 is barely better than the 970 at 1080p.

EDIT: Mfw my pcpartpicker link doesnt include the mobo price...

Your generalisations especially in regards to OC are total nonsense, especially since Maxwell

Out of the box without having to manually adjust shit.

suggest waiting out for AMD ZEN FM4 socket.

Last I heard Zen won't be out till q4 '16/q1 '17, which is rather a long wait. Plus it's supposed to be for more budget oriented builds? 1k euro is a reasonable spending price.
