Got schooled by a shitter with 499 WN8 in an IS-4

I think I did pretty good at the start of the battle( held back like 7 tanks by myself) but as soon as that IS-4 got into position, things quickly turned to shit. What could I have done in this situation? I don't think I could've penned that IS-4 even with APCR cuz he was in such an awkward position.Should I have just camped harder or was my initial position just bad? Pls haaalp

I took a quick look through the replay.

I think what got you into trouble is your initial positioning. It was a great spot, except your team didn't have control of the hill. That meant that when the IS4 got into position, you were forced to fight him on unfavorable terms and you couldn't simply switch sides of the rock to keep hard cover between you and the IS4.

To be fair, your team didn't do you any favors (meds got rekt in the north, no one contested the hill, and your Jageru TK'd a Bat AP) but it looks as though you were a little too aggressive and got cut off from your team. Then, the IS4 got into a really solid position and there wasn't much you could do about it.

Other notes: Great angling at the beginning. I'm still on the IS3 and I can't sidescrape to save my life. Also, good job removing guns from the fight instead of going for big hits on enemy tanks.

Ya, I think I would have bailed on your initial position as soon as the 14:10 mark (before you even got there). You were sorta tunnel-visioning going down the 9-0 line right at the start. You should always be watching where your team goes, especially if you're going to take a riskier position like you did. If you had been watching your team, you'd have seen that your AMX 30s immediately turned around and went north, and your B-C stopped somewhere in your base (and then got team killed).

In general, if your in a heavy tank and only see a bottom tier scout in front of you, you know you've lost the hill. Also, if you're going to be in that location, I would much rather that you put a shot into the AMX 50 100 on the hill, who was obviously going to kill your bulldog as soon as possible. Instead you poked into like 4 heavies and a TD right at the start of the match.

Also, I don't think you should be side-scraping JPE-100's. Once he fired, ya go kill him. But IMO it's a really bad trade under normal circumstances. Also, your ammo rack is underneath your front shoulder armor.

But yeah, that IS-4 was virtually indestructible once he got to that position. You probably should have fallen back to where your team was, even if it meant taking some hits from the AMX.

I also liked how you focused down the T-10s tho.

IS4 UFP/LFP are both trash (literally easy pens) so just stop shooting sides altogether unless he shows engine deck (you can overmatch) and go for the LFP/UFP simply. It's pretty much designed so the frontal armour are still pennable with gold when the sides are impenetrable, and vice versa

Why you didn't procede to red area? and you have potential dmg from 50120 and STI?

You just sit there while your stupid team melts, and you give IS-4 4 shots and doing nothing in return. I would risk 50120 exposure (and soak dmg with mighty Stalin 7) and take out IS-4 and proceed with hulldown pounding STI.

Also while crossing towards IS-4, green idiots probably will hit stronk RU turret or side armor...

^ that's wrong

you're way too far up and you need to be able to fight all of those guys from the same angle so you need to pull back, not forward

Still better than get shit on by HEAT IS-4. At least i would try that. Move forward and get IS-4 then maybe retards behind him would push forward.

Pushing forward would get you shot by the light and 50 and no matter the russian bias you won't bounce a 50 120 from the hill and he has the elevation to pen you with ease on the engine deck and the second you start turning you get shit on by the IS4 that will then be able to push on your team.

Staying far back enough to eliminate any chance of crossfire is the only way to keep that fight alive

I can agree, you are better, but I would rather risk 1600 from 50120 than pounding (from IS-4) and doing nothing. And I didn't watch that closely, but maybe 50120 was on reload at the beginning when IS-4 relocated.

Also, I must check the option for backup, because even if he pulled back 50120 could get him.

EDIT

Two outcomes, he could immediately push when 50120 fire all 4 shells into M41 and get into IS-4 cover, or get back to FV215b. Latter on, when he poked after (about 40s) there is not 50120 on the hill waiting for him, I didn't bother to look replay till the end, but maybe he aimed at another side since that side won.

Crossfire either way if he push forward or pull back, best solution is baiting shots and let team do the work.
