Best settings for enhancing gameplay performance?

Recommended Posts

'Sup purple bots, just wondering what you've put your settings to in order to optimise your tanking performance. I'm thinking along the lines of turning off extra effects cos it's 'useless' visual fluff, or setting flora to OFF so that you have better visibility (assume I'm on a god PC and everything is currently set to max). I'm sure there's a few settings of mine which could improve my gameplay if slightly tweaked.

Screenshots nice but not necessary :)

My two cents:

My current setup. Of course, some things are completely visual but still on - Lightning quality, shadow, water and foliage quality and LOD option. Most important things for gameplay are - Texture quality, draw distance  and decals(not so much).

Also, everything that you enable in sniper mode almost exclusively guarantees lag/performance drop since it goes from not displaying that crap in 3rd person to loading crap in sniper view.

i run the game completely maxed, except for mtion blur.

also, turn off grass in sniper mode so you can see properly when ridge poking.

one great tip: turn down your sensitivity. it makes it easier to aim. and prevents tiny movements on the mouse from throwing your aim off.  i run fairly high sensitivities in FPS games, but in WoT its right down. something like a 50cm 360 when zoomed out at max distance. (compared to a ~25cm 360 in BF4 - 800dpi 18%)

it will also upset your reticule less allowing you to aim faster because the movement is slower.

i turned special effect like the colour filters off, and the optics effects in sniper mode.  i also have turned off a lot of the new 9.16 UI features because it feels too cluttered (i left on the spotting stuff only, and use mods for damage dealt/recieved as I prefer the look)

speaking of clutter, if you happen to use lots of big cluttery detailed mods, remove them. they can look useful on the face of it but instead just end up impairing your situational awareness because theres too much useless information you dont need. if you cant glance at it and see what it says instantly, its probably too much.

Go the carbonward route: minimized everything except draw distance. Everything else is just noise

Terrain quality also has to be maxed out or you get weird places where you see above a ridge but can't actually shoot it, invisible terrain and shit.

Yeah, that's pretty much how WGL RU guys run it. Like 100% potato mode.

Feel free to leave everything on max settings. Just make sure to disable the grass, and lower the special effects, in sniper mode.

I run SD Client with draw, object LOD, and textures maxed

FoV Maxed (120deg)

I run with a 1600x900 monitor so its hard to take a screenshot of everything

Going from a PC that needed compressed textures to run it at "normal" fps to a PC that can run everything maxed out at 100+ fps it's hard to resist the purty graphics and to lower anything down, but sniper view grass is definitely the one everyone should disable. Other than that it's up to personal preferences.

Very interesting question.

I play the game on absolute minimal settings (and muted) except for terrain quality to increase fps and be less distracted. I'm one of those noobs playing on a Mac :doge:

Furthermore I have foliage transparency turned off, so if I am within 15m of a bush it completely disappears instead of becoming slightly transparent. Makes shooting through a bush easier.

honestly I dont see the point in running the game on low. i mean, its not going to do anything for you if you have grass off, between running max and min.  in fact running min I became less situationally aware becaude I couldnt see things like Artillery shells landing next to me because there were no effects, and seeing shells land is a big thing for me because I use it to track where enemies are firing from. as for the rest of the textures/lighting/quality effects, I see absolutely no reason that they would give you ANY difference or improvement in gameplay when turned off, except FPS. but im running at 100fps while maxed anyway so thats not a reason for me.

Pretty much the same as Asassian I run Max everything except Grass, Motion Blur and Sniper effects.

Here is a decent technical description of those terms:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/2794/2

TLDR:

Basically V-sync tries to match the frame rate from the card to the monitors refresh rate...so if you have a 60hz monitor, card will limit itself to 60 fps. This can sometimes lead to improved image quality but also some input lag.

Triple buffering is a technique that helps to prevent that screen tearing (works with v-sync)..which is when the GPU and Monitor are out of sync and you get partially drawn frames which results in screen tearing usually noticeable in FPS shooters when you jump around the corner and turn your mouse quickly. Frame changes are so fast that card is unable to keep up.

Triple buffering sends 3 frames from GPU so that there is always an extra frame to use...one for front buffer, one for rear and an extra to fill in the gaps. (requires a bit more GPU memory). Read tech specs for more details in terms of front and rear buffer.

Should you use it?

I generally dont use V-sync as i can easily output more frames than my 60hz monitor can display....and since WOT isn't really a twitchy game like COD/BF i haven't noticed any tearing.

Best thing to do is test it...try with and without..its very dependant on the hardware you are using whether it improves or worsens your experience.

:)

I have everything to the max. I like my games to look pretty when I can run it.

The only two things I've removed are: motion blur, as I don't see the purpose of fake blurring; and then also grass in sniper mode as that makes it easier to see where hills start/end.
