How to recover and start improving again?

Recommended Posts

How? I ragequit the game like 1.5 years ago or something and fucked up my old account beyond no return and then started playing again when I could start over on this Type 59 account.
Back then I was pulling steady 3.5k-3.6k recents and improving constantly but I find myself unable to reliably pull much more than 3k-3.2k these days with abysmal winrates on top of that usually.

It feels like everyone is out there to get me and every game has 3 arties in it on maps like Airfield or El Halluf or Overlord that are pretty shit already even without arty.

I have been focusing on 7/68 mostly for past few months and improved a lot on that front but I hate the fact how people look at my stats and think I'm just another shitter because they are barely over 3k.
Ofcourse I could blame this on tank choices that I have played mostly for the past few months atleast (Grille, M40, TVP, 907) but.. It just doesn't feel right even though those tanks have some absurd expected values.

Heck my BC stats are bloody awful really, 2829 avg damage, 1172 avg spotted and 63% winrate.

Here is a screenshot comparison of my old account and new account for BC. What I noticed immediatly is my abysmal survival rate on new account, and I do find myself dying way too often these days because every other game ends 15-0 and I find myself being desperate for doing any damage and doing stupid shit because of that.

Plez halp me, I need to get out of these shitty 3k recents :(
Also ignore my stats on WotLabs, they have been wrong for a long while now.

Getting back to an old level is the same as improving normally really, you try out things and see what works and doesn't. Hang on to what does and drop whatever's questionable.

Just keeping focus on trying to do well is probably the most important one, it's also hard to do, but really going through every possible scenario as often as you can to minimize risks and keep doing safe plays. DPGs usually suffer at the beginning with being overly cautious but once you get past it you'll start to get more consistent. Everyone has shitty games and so on but whenever I really put the tryhard pants on that's probably the biggest difference. I don't have trouble doing well on the maps that I like and feel comfortable playing no matter what, but on trash like Stalingrad really just focusing instead of tilting because of map rotation/MM or whatever is the key to get consistent games even when you get the odds stacked against you.

If something goes bad just shrug it off and try something else, stubbornness is what gets pubbies killed most of the time anyway

For some reason it seems near impossible to win games regardless of how I approach them, having 50% winrate over past week is more than depressing :l

Is it really necessary to platoon to win... Even playing in a platoon with my bluebob real life friends seems to have more of a negative effect on my results than a positive one for some reason.
Also being chatbanned till 4th of January doesn't help at finding platoons lol

I quit for about a year and it took about a month for my stats to normalize and now I'm finally starting to play better. Nowhere near as anyone else however, this point @Kolni makes was super important to me. I used to rage at bullshit like this, whether it be 5 arty Prok. games or just random pubbies. If you can push that aside and accept bullshit will happen, you can start to really learn and recognize what you should and shouldn't be doing, Stop raging and moaning within your mind and actually think about the game, and use your intuition the one thing this game really needs compared to a lot of others.

Yup, shit maps get me constantly. Like El Halluf being garbage in anything but a heavy, or Ruinberg south spawn being unplayable completely etc.
Paper tanks just don't seem to do it these days on most maps because everything is about brawling in one square if you actually want to win the game.

I don't mind either of those maps anymore because I've found plays on both. City on Ruin is playable and just realising good trades on El Halluf etc etc

the tough maps are still the maps that lack options when your team is just flat out losing (Mountain Pass is impossible to farm if the enemy just streamrolls the south and you have nowhere to keep them at bay, Stalingrad has the same issue, and so on)

Teach me plix, I really wanna know how to play shit like El Halluf and actually contribute to winning in a tank with no armor whatsoever or depression to abuse the hill where you get artied anyway.
Or that southspawn on Ruinberg, field is usually a death trap from the south, most success I have probably had was peaking middle from the city and shooting the people raping our team on the field.

I think Paris has the same problem as El Halluf, the whole fight is settled in one or two squares on one side of the map every time. Then you have few tomatos camping on the other side so it's not viable really to go there either because they will #rek you in that case.

Also wtf to do with 3+ arties in games, the temptation to chai snipe every game is... too much. The sky cancer is so real and you are usually first one spotted in most games because of some early moves and then arty has a hard on for you for the rest of the game :l

Before I went on several long breaks, I could pull 4-4,5k most of the time, now I barely go over 3k.
It's mostly because my situational awareness has become shit, that's what I need to focus on now.

Maybe you are in the same situation?

Must be the size limit on Minimap these days lol
Also bullshit RNG like this where a single shot doesn't land where you aim or hits the gun mantlet on some paper tank constantly...
Or you just shoot a T57...

Just tried again on main "what could possibly go wrong", 9% win rate, retiring the account for good.

If you care about account stats for some reason, I would advise you to practice 1000-2000 matches on another account first.

If you want to improve again, stop finding what's 'wrong' with the game and instead focus on what's wrong with your individual play. I've personally noticed that whenever I'm in the 'blame the game mechanics' stage, I tend to plateau whereas if I truthfully critique myself, I improve by leaps and bounds.

Additionally, if you find yourself doing the same old positions, try something new for a change and experiment.

One thing that I have noticed, is that if I play during daytime, slept out and in a good mood i turn some music up and pull off over 3k wn8.
But then when I'm tired, on tilt or desperately trying to do well I screw it all up again.

When the game is almost won and I haven't done much damage yet I often find myself yoloing in because I'm afraid there won't be anything left for me.
This usually results in me dying and achieving less then if I had taken it easy.

I think it is important to just play for fun and quit if it isn't fun anymore. If you try to do well you usually do worse.
When you have fun you play better and when you play better you have more fun.

Why did you get chat banned though?

I'm wondering if you're not doing anything different - and it's just that the meta has changed. I think most of us would say that it's got worse and worse and worse on NA in terms of passivity of sub-teal recents (maybe including myself in this) - even some teals think that a map is won by not being the first do die or spot or get shot or shoot something. With 3 arty a regularity, no-one wants to be lit first and focused for the rest of the match, and people punish any aggressive play by camping the ends of funnels....and that's almost all they do. Maybe you're just playing identically to how you were and need to play differently - I reckon the other issue is that people are hard-camping so much that it's hard to have success by the old 'shadow a pubby and use them as a meat-shield' route, as now they're playing too far back for it to work, and thus soloing gives blue w/r and platooning purple, almost however good you are. I'm definitely finding that true for me, although tbh (and you can see that..) i'm a shitter.

To supplement Kolni's suggestion you could try this:

I believe that @CarbonWard is credited with a very simple method for improvement: Have a piece of paper and a pencil next to your computer. After every game good or bad write down three errors (keep it short), which you should/could have avoided / improved upon. Rinse and repeat. This will keep you focused on your own performance, and draw attention away from the frustrations which the game contains.

Been having the same problem after coming back from a break and carbon is right.  It's coming back the more I play.  Maybe that won't work for you though.

I started back in about a month ago after more than a year off.  It's just now feeling like it's coming back to me.  It's funny, because in some ways, I feel like the break improved some of my skills.  I feel more aware of the battle as a whole now.

The changed meta is probably one of the things that I'm affected by and I guess only real way to get around that is to just play more.

This RNG is also fucking awful, just another prime example how fucking bad your games can go just because of pure bad luck. Fully aimed shots go nowhere near and bounce on some shit AMX TD that has no armor to begin with constantly etc. Just balanced this rng thing. Then killshot goes into ground too at the end just because reasons.

For me, the game is becomming more and more platoon dependent because the average player has become much worse so you end up with at least 12+ bad players on your team almost always.

This is my experience aswell but I do also think there is fault in my gameplay aswell. But dropping from consistent 60-65% winrates down to like 50% isn't very likely either just because I took a break.

I just returned from a break of over a year, and I'm at the same winrate over the past few hundred games (since I started back) as I was before.  Shoot, I'm at the same winrate I was at about 2000 games in.  I'm stuck at 56%.  I play solo the vast majority of the time.

It is MUCH easier to win more in platoons, in my experience.  And I usually only platoon with one other person when I do platoon.  I suspect a full platoon increases the odds of winning even further.

It has been my recent experience that more battles involve teams that you can clearly tell have no real chance to win because of deployment or terrible trades and general crappy play at the choke points.  When half your team vanishes in the first couple of minutes, it's hard to come back.  It happens, but it's hard.

How often are you dying? Itd be interesting to see the average over 100 games, of seconds left in the battle after you die.. your 7 day dpg for tier 9.45 is 2500, hardly what youd expect if youre consistently surviving until  the end of the battle. Play the whole game, not just the beginning half of it. If games are lasting 3 minutes, stop playing

^ best advice I ever got in this game.
