Maybe I am a special snowflake, but I dont feel the focus because of stats at all. I have many games where arty chooses to shoot someone next to me, or not at me at all (picking another flank to shoot at). Of course I still get the annoying one-shots from time to time, but that is often because I seek out the fight in the usual quick/aggresive positions and stay there to fight. Then they smack me because of my positioning and not because I am a special snowflake purple player.

I think there is a lot of confirmation bias going on with this. One only notices arty when they smack one repeadtedly. It is hard to notice when/if they shoot at something else, because WG didn't make it obvious when arty is firing and where.

I don't know what is worse having great stats or great tank, people literally go in turn themselves on me and take a hit just to hit me once.

And yesterday I got few one hits.

You dont have full purple though ^^

While we have the same winrate and wn8 (and thus the same color) i ALSO get dark purple game count, even for those with russian settings (its 20k for normal xvm and 30k games for the russian padder version?) you also have just below 10k WG rating, meaning that those who use WG rating also dont have you are purple.

So doesnt matter what config / stat combo people use, im always entirely (dark) purple (nobody usses eff i guess?) while you will be once or twice purple (or not even once, if somebody uses only games played and WG rating)

ps: but the best proof is test server, on test server i hardly EVER get shot by arty, even with 4 arty in a game while playing maximum attack mode (its test server afterall) yet on live server, with 2 arty and while trying to not draw agro, i get bombed by default, game after game (when in platoon, the load gets spread, meaning platooning also reduces the change to get artied, nice mechanic WG)

This is just so fundamentally untrue. Good players don't get hit by arty because they have better stats, they get hit because they are in the good spots trying to control the front.

It's both.  If you really need data we can probably rig up a study.  Lots off people play on accounts that aren't their own though, where the effect is reduced down to just the reason you cite.  But each piece of UI information gives slightly more focus as well.  Clan tags,  notoriety  (paging @Yankee to testify ), xvm stats and the ultimate...sheriff account! But leaving a clan,  having xvm being broken or simply socking another account will reduce the focus.  And it's not just arty focus,  but the amount of time and attention specifically spent trying to eliminate your tank.

That said,  because it's mostly predictable, it's manipulatable and that's why many players post 70% plus on their sheriffs (plus reroll effect of course ). But in cases like those it's funny to sit in a spot and force them to stare/yolo, freeing up your team to be active.

So I'm not denying that there's an "activity" effect and it's likely the primary,  but UI information also increases the focus, including name recognition, clan recognition and xvm identification.

I also won't deny that there is an XVM effect, but I still have to believe that's secondary. An arty player that's anywhere above brain dead pre-aims their shot at the beginning of every match. I wonder how many purple players use "enemies spotted" to boost their WN8, meaning they are one of the first players spotted, meaning the pre aimed shot is going to them. Or how many purple players aggressively take  early map control locations... where the arty is pre-aimed. And once you jumble up there, why would arty move his gun and suffer bloom as big as the map instead of just wait 3 more seconds for a shot? And why aim for the guy who is getting shot in the open for maybe 300 damage and a kill when the sidescraping guy can be hit for 800+ and disabled? Playing peek-a-boom on the second row from a corner = easier to hit for arty.

My main gripe is that it seems people just don't recognize that arty is so backwards that most of what you do to be good against a normal tank makes you more convenient a target for arty.

This is true. I've been speculating on accounts on ebay and I have test driven them a few times and I feel different focus with different WR. Funny thing is you don't have to be purple to get focused. You just have to be statistically best on your team or statistically best that the arty is able to focus. I know not all arty does that but in the days of all chat people were open about it and I used to see messages "arty focus player x" and it wasn't always some 65+ pro, they did the same when the best player was a 53% scrub.

Though overall I think gameplay and tank affect focus more than stats. If you are the first to get spotted you are the first arty will see. Given most of them are morons they will not be able to change targets easily so they will follow you around. If you are in something big or soft they will stay on you longer, if you have better stats same but being spoted first or closest to arty usually gives me focus despite being a 55% idiot.

Though I bet some clans have it worse. On EU Kazna and Fame seem to be the ones I see targeted in chat the most often. Fame because scrubs seem to think Fame = czitorz

You never get a second chance at a first impression. I have some premium content for AW, but will likely never be back.

Judging a game like AW in it's first pre-release patch is like judging wot by looking at a video from 2012. It's utter garbage, and not relevant anymore. I don't mind AW terribly now, and will like it a lot in B 2.0.

Give me a way to transfer my account to EU and I'll take AW seriously again.

Gentlemen (and ladies?), I agree with almost everything that has been said and the general consensus; WG is trying to "fix" a bunch of things but are doing so incorrectly. Oddly I had no idea how these changes affected me until I read a post referring to 2014/2015 and then I realized... Since mid-2015 I've reduced the amount of "investment" into this game... I believe its correlated to these shitty changes which affect how much fun I have in this game, hell I even had to leave for health reasons...

Today I think I spent $60 in the last 3 months on this game, I used to spent 100+ a month.. So let me be proof of what you all are saying, WG is killing it's own game. The question now is if the US-market starts to bleed and revenue decreases will that merit a change?

I'd also like to add to the arty-focus: It is true, it does happen. I think roughly 20% of the times I am smacked by arty it is focus-related. I can't imagine Unis or top clan players. I've had arty players follow me across the map, shooting every chance they got - and when I disappeared they'd wait until I was spotted again. I've been focused by an arty platoon while I'm in my T37, they were trying to hit me as I'm zipping through the map.. it happens... even if its 1/100 games, it still happens.

Anyone not full dark purple has no idea how hard arty targets xvm

I got focused in the M103 a crazy amount at the expense of easier targets around me. I got focused by two arty in my Cromwell on Murovanka in a Tier 8 match the other day while trying to keep the enemy's HTs lit around D9-D0 ffs. Why? First tank lit is my guess. They had their pick of our tier 8 HTs on the other flank. First one tracked me, second killed me before I could get my tracks back up. So preaiming.

Yet my stats suck. No accounting for the logic of a clicker. Basically, this:

I will forever maintain that it is correlation, not causation, that lends to unicums being artied.

Farming damage requires being lit a lot of the time which leads to an inevitable result.

You unicums just like to kid yourselves that people give a shit who you are.

And PS Wargaming: an across-the-board accuracy nerf in your quest to make HTs great again? Because 25% RNG isn't enough? Let's make the game worse for everyone because all the dicks who botted their way to a Tier X HT and don't know how to use their armour are complaining.

Well, i always try to not be spotted first, if 5 tanks are camping on campinovka hill top, and i know there 3-7 guys in front, i will hide till my team spots them (so they get spotted and bombed by arty)

But even that still doesnt help much half the time...

I play meds because of arty, not because they focus me less, but because it's harder for them to hit.

It's not unusual that I get arty focus from 1-2 arties from the first second I'm spotted until either me or arty is dead.

Not gonna speculate much into why, but it's probably a combination of me being very aggressive and therefore spotted early and often, cancer xvm and/or just random bad luck.

Funny anecdote: I used to ask arty players why they killed me instead of x tank when there was still all chat, and almost everytime I got an answer, it was "you were the best player on team".

That's true. I remember sometimes asking in pain "why me" and most of the times I was told the same thing. Even though my overall is forever blue it's still enough to be the best player in 80% of the games.

The more I read about this first spotted thing, the more it makes sense. If a purple gets spotted first, the brain dead's tend to focus on that the whole time. I know in my shitter days 2011-2013 I would do the same thing.

I also find, since I'm trying to NOT be the first one spotted or first to engage, the arty focus has been A LOT less. But I've been told that since I just hit blue the arty focus will get worse again.

Sucks to my asthsmar....

First spotted and activity is a contributing factor, but when a Bat Chat arty fires all 4 shells into the rock you are hiding behind whilst a bob E100 sits in the open it's pretty obvious.

End of the day a lot of arty players are bad players (I'd speculate the average arty player is slightly worse than the average tank player just because the better you are the more arty is restrictive). Bad player don't like good players, good players kill them, good players in their mind camp the red line and let them die, they can't fight the good players in tanks, they generally get their arse handed to them, sometimes even with a two tier advantage. Good players in their minds, spam gold, camp the red line, pay to win, get all the best stuff they don't get. It's obvious from the forums, youtube comments etc. (you only have to the jealous butthurt on this epic battles when someone dares to fire prem ammo) that there is a lot of resentment there.

Arty gives those players the ability to fuck over some random good player without recourse, zero risk to them and all they need is a bit of RNG.

You only have watch some of the purple streamers play on bob accounts and see how much arty ignored them and players in general ignored them. I have a mate who was purple on his main account (he sold it) he has access to a real life mates account who is terrible, deep red and he says the difference is night and day, only when he's decimated half the enemy team do the enemy start waking up (and arty in particular) that the bot like E100 or whatever is actually a threat.

------------------------------------------

These changes are a decent ish direction but some are bad, like the Type 4 and 5 Heavy derps, that is just creating annoyance to fight those tanks in other heavies, angle properly, get hull down, maximise your armour but some complete bob will be able to snap shot you for 300-400 damage and probably knock out a module.

The arty change is just pointless, we need to see real change on arty, the 'year of fixes' promised much but gave us little on the main gameplay issues, WG give a lot of talk about arty but we see very little.

I'm very interested to see new sandbox cos the first one generally was pure cancer, 70% of their changes were just terrible and in the complete wrong direction. Accuracy nerfs, standard round pen nerfs, stupid armour buffs to heavies, further specialisation all terrible IMO.

Fix arty, adjust premium ammo, change the MM to match tank types which is what they are doing, get some better maps, nerf some of the best tanks on tier, buff some of the worst on tier, generally reduce alpha and eliminate one shots & very fast autoloading clips. I also like the tier 10 lights idea, btu I think most of them need more the 440 base view range of the German one, not 410m, that is not enough.  Also other view ranges don't need to be nerfed, a Fatton with 420m is no problem because the Fatton is the size of a moon, a light even with just 420 will be a vastly better spotter than a Fatton because it will have the camo too.

I'd also like to see them take a leaf out of WOWs, firstly on not allowing arty to platoon with other arty, even rebalanced arty with that stun will be super annoying with platoon focus on one player and secondly on their reusable and various consumables, reusable repair kits and med kits with a cool down -> takes frustration away for players, no getting racked and feeling useless for the rest of the game, and new consumables like smoke and stuff to create variety and special skills for classes.

Like light tanks could get speed boost and smoke consumables for example.

Done, a good game gets massively better and way less annoying.

firstly on not allowing arty to platoon with other arty

im myself 100% convinced that if Wg would do the following:

  • arty can not platoon with other arty
  • ban in-game stats
  • remove AP / HEAT from arty and remove penetration from HE (they can even buff the aim time and accuracy, to offset this for all i care)

90% of the arty problems are fixed, they can no longer create tard platoons or bomb specific targets, and without AP / HEAT, 1/3 of the players will stop playing arty, because they cant play T92 and try to one shot IS7`s ``for fun``.

One shot, arty platoons and xvm hunt, those 3 things make arty pure cancer, the whole ``shoot cross map with godview`` doesnt matter much, untill you get hit for 1500-2000, because fuck you...
