The line it is in is generally overlooked in favor of the one that leads to the Matilda. The Cruiser I, II, and Valentine are all decent enough tanks for their tiers (ok, the Cruiser I is pretty awful, but the other two can hold their own). In the Cruiser II's case, it's a much better tank than it's alternative, the Medium 3. The Valentine is a perfectly good tank that unfortunately is always overlooked in favor of the monster that is the Matilda. Let's weigh the two:

Valentine:

-Better top speed

-Better alpha

Matilda:

-Better armor

-Much better DPM

-Better Penetration

-Better accuracy/aim time

The two are very similar, but have slightly different niches in the "heavy" tank world. The Matilda basically drives onwards, pew-pewing anything it meets to death. The Valentine doesn't quite have the same capability to charge slowly at the enemy and machinegun them, and works better along the lines of a pseudo-peekaboom/brawling tank.

The bottom line is that the Matilda is more or less the better option.

Another factor is most people would only run one light crew, and the Cromwell line looks much more appealing. I went up the Valentine line until the Cruiser III, but have since gone back to go get a Cromwell. No Val for me...

I detested mine at first, mostly due to inexperience and thinking that the top gun (meaning highest ranked gun) which if I remember right is the 75mm is always the best gun for a tank. I think the Valentine has a problem of its armour being not quite good enough and pennable for many other Tier IVs (Matildas for starters). It's also slow, not quite as slow as the Matilda but still not fast enough to out-maneuver anything faster than a paraplegic slug. It does deal very well with machinegun using tanks and low-pen highly maneuverable tanks because of 60mm all round. It's gun selection is also more versatile than the Matilda's, but the Matilda's best gun is a ridiculous laser pointer that could penetrate a Terminator's left bollock.

I'll need to give it another whirl now I'm not a aficionado of windex.

I finished off the Crusader (badly) and thought I'd go back to the Valentine so all my British lines would be elited up to tier V (except arty, because I can't stand playing arty).

It's not bad at all, I've only been using the 2-pdr and with that it's very similar to the Matilda, but without the awesome penning 2-pdr Mark X-B. I think I'll finish off the Bishop grind with the 6-pdr Mark V, I'd rather have the better pen than the 75mm's higher alpha. It'll certainly shorten the Churchill's path to it's top gun.

All in all I'd say the Valentine is a fine little tank that gets overlooked because the Matilda is that little bit better, and the Valentine doesn't lead to anything you can't get by going through the Matilda anyway. If you've got a light British crew kicking around doing nothing give the Valentine a try.

Played it 5 week ago and its terrible. Gun has ok pen (110) but dpm and aimtime are so bad. Armor sucks and tank is so slow. Its not worst tank , but its turd like many other tier 4s.

The 6 lber on it is good though slow firing and not at all historical,  If it was given a higher ROF it would rival the Matilda in popularity with its doing more damage per minute.

Am I crazy, or is the stock gun on Valentine better than two top alternatives? It has superior accuracy (0,36 vs 0,41), aimtime (1,7 vs 2,5) and even DPM (1430 vs 1000). You will need to use a healthy amount of gold, but having an insane 15 degrees gun depression and accuracy of stock gun allows to effectively play hulldown at fairly long distances. And boy, does that -15 depression open up a lot of spots to show only tour turret (since the hull is unreliable with few thin flat parts).

This Ace Tanker was won by using the Light Tank as a Sniper and using camouflage net and Binoculars to inflict damage and 2 kills
with over 1000 damage with no damage whatsoever on my own tank ( fire for effect ) - I used the 6 pdr gun ( 57mm ) which had a relaod of 4.12 seconds

rather than the 75mm gun due to the slower reload of the 75mm ( a massive 6 seconds ) and poorer penetration compared to the 57mm gun -

I also fitted vents with my Bia Crew to maximise my reload
overall this is slow tank with weak armour - so this playstyle played to the strengths of my tank and my crew skills .

Screw off with the historical. If you want to claim historical, be right.

In regards to the Valentine, the Val II has very effective armor with tier 4 only MM. If all "slow lights" and heavies got tier 4 MM only, it would be a good choice, with the Matilda nerf.
