Vents VS GLD for big gun TD's?

Recommended Posts

Hey all

So being a follower I've started playing a lot more TDs. (and it helps that I'm pretty sure the new French and Chinese Premium TDS are some of the best tanks in the game)

But I've always equipped my TDs with Rammer/Vents/Binocs (I find, for me,optics are good, but if I *need*  view range in a game I'd rather have binocs)

Talking to another player this evening as his 704 and my Jagdtiger were the only two tanks on our team to manage to do more than 1K damage in a T10 match , and he mentioned that he saw someone here mention that GLD's were better for TD's than Vents

I had never heard this, I've always assumed vents to be better in 99% of cases, as shaving a few tenths of a second off aim time didn't seem like that big a deal,(compared to reload) I actually recently sold pretty much all the extra GLD's I had in the depot,

Just wondering if this is actually a thing, are GLD's better for big gun TD's than vents? Figured I'd ask for opinions before spending a few million credits to buy them back and test them out on various TD's

Thanks!

It depends on the TD really.  Big caliber guns like 155mm+ need every little bit of aim time you can get.   Id say keep using vents with 130mm and under at high tiers though...most of those guns already have good aim time and the extra little bit of accuracy and reload time is always welcome.

GLD for anything that has to shoot and move(JT/T95/Wz120)

Vent for anything that can snipe and need acc, but for those tanks(outside of sweds) you are better off with a binoc to be able to solo push a lane.

Really depends on the tank, stuff like JGPZ shouldn't really ever miss anyway, so I actually run GLD/Binos/Rammer because the Binos help you spot shit early in case you're getting pushed in a lane and it'll help you get an extra shot off. An extra shot in a JGPZ is quite decisive in how good your game is.

For things like the 263 where I personally move a lot more but I still run the same combo due to open top, optics are pretty pointless in TDs since you'll be sitting still when sniping anyway. Even in stuff like E3/T95 I would run binocs because you never ever solo play in it so you should have time to aim in more, and you can dig yourself in real hard for a camp where binos will be a bit more useful.

The only TDs I would run full gun tryhard is where the tanks only asset is their gun (FV TDs, Tortoise and JT because their armour is not an asset :serb:

Thanks all! I'll try some combos out.

Just picked up the 183, thinking that might benefit more from the GLD, although vents would help with that accuracy... and the VR with Binocs is too good to give up

Are you planning on running food? Because if so, you can run a build like rammer/gld/optics without missing the vents too much. But if you aren't running food, then its a question of just how bad the aim time really is. Something like a CDA with its 2.0 second base aim time can probably get more value from vents if only for the DPM and view range. But something like the WZ eggroll cannon with its 2.9 second base aim time (and already high DPM and view range) makes a much more compelling case for the laying drive.
