If the Type 59 came on sale in the Premium Shop, would you buy it?

Im kind of convinced this tank is maybe the most overhyped tank in the game... I've seen many people calling it OP when it seems pretty ordinary.... if it came on sale, would you buy it (obv assuming you dont have it!)... and why?

It's about the only non light tank i've not got bored with. For me for a prem tank purchase to be worth it you need to be looking for something that you'll be ok spending hours playing it, not whether it's broken OP (it appears WG's views on this may differ). Even prior to buffs it was ok with about the only issue being the so so gun handling. And that's been fixed. Beyond that about the only weakness is that there aren't any super meta chinese meds to grind crews with it. But for credits it still does its job with aplomb.

But these days the 34-3 is now a lot closer due to its armor and aim time buffs so if you went for that you will be getting something pretty close.

I never understood it. For me the tank is just not reliable. Yeah the gun is good but somehow it always fails me. Maybe it's the DPM since a 5 skill crew + food should mitigate most weaknesses

No I'd get the -3 coz lol alpha is lol. In my opinion if they would sell it they would overprice it. If the price would be reasonable then maybe.

175 pen on the -3 is good enough for a medium that does not see tier Xs. 390 alpha means you can trade with anything and 390 bombs from a medium must be very very FUN.

If t8 SMM was decent (what it was before), yes.

Since it's not (you get games with 5 * t9 + 10 * t8 all the time) then I wouldn't buy it again.

I don't play mine that much though after the gun handling was fixed it is at least playable.

Probably as long as it was unbundled. It is still basically a T-54 balanced for tier 8 with limited MM and better gun depression, though now I have the Primo Victoria I have a strong turreted medium premium so the appeal is less.

  I just put a mod into my game file so that my Type 59 looks like this. Only I can see it and not the rest of the team (or enemy arty). But the gun is so funny I couldn't resist.

I prefer the bigger gun of the T 34 3, even with all its drawbacks im not much of a dpm guy unless its my T26E5 which plays nothing like the Type 59

 

also if they did sell it, it would be stupid expensive and then it definitely wouldn't be worth it cause it really isn't outstanding for its like some of the other rare tanks (albeit most of them are OP low tiers, but low tiers don't mean much to me)

Over the years 2013 through to 2017 it suffered quite badly from power creep, both newer tech tree and premium tanks had begun to eclipse it.

In 2017 it received a series of buffs that have made it more competetive.

But the reason it has the reputation is it does is when it was first on sale it saw  -3 MM but only +1MM. So it could bully tier VIs like mad, and only ever get a few tier IXs.

Nowadays it sees tier IX in virtually all battles (albeit generally only the top three), and occassionally tier VIIs. So it is never as rampant as it used to be.

One advantage the Type 59 still has is the normal 181 penetration shells are cheap, so if you can make that penetration work (and 181 is now relatively modest for penetration in 2017 tier VIII mediums) the Type 59 will make good silver profits.

It's still a good tank.

But if people think they will automatically do well in it they are in for a surprise.

The gun is pretty shit and you really need to let it aim in (feels like IS6) levels :E 

There is no driving around yolo shooting on the move.

I do still prefer it over most other prem tanks though.
