I bought some boxes and was really disappointed to get what looked like 2 non-camo patriots (I already owned a patriot...like wtf are you kidding me?) ....bummed around in my garage feeling unlucky and deflated and low and behold there was a type 59 in my garage    

Santa must have put it there, because it did not come from the Xmas boxes, ...apparently  

Anyway how do you play it?

yeah. mobility seems better than the 343... the gun is a little weak alpha wise but i like the general really good med feeling of the tank.

Really though... every other game does loot boxes and people flip, WoT does loot boxes and every one is shoveling cash into their mouths over an artificially scarce tank...? I wouldn't pay $35 for a Type 59 at this point, much less the $100 it likely takes to get one on average. They're just selling it the only way they can, which is without "selling" it.

The difference is that on average, these gift boxes tend to give you better value than simply purchasing a tank/gold by itself. Loot boxes from other games have significantly diminishing returns.

Anyway the biggest problem people seem to be having with the latest lot box controversy is the way the cram them into full price release, everyone expects f2p games to have some form of monetisation and even though I think Wot's is pretty bloody ordinary it's no worse than most not to mention they're not tied into progression at all. It's still entirely feasible to play this game without spending a red cent, it'll be harder and you may be at a disadvantage to start with but once you complete a mission for a free tier 8 prem then you're not terribly far behind anyone else.

Personally I'm happy generally with the value...type 59, patriot, sentinel , 47k gold, 30 days ash premium, and 5 million credits, plus the decoration stuff for other discounts. Seems good value to me... (oh yeah female crew members too, garage spaces, I've lost count). I dont really understand the complaints as out of all the things wg is selling, this is by far the most value in general. Has anyone calculated the value against what they spent objectively? At the moment many comments on for example the EU forum seem to make stuff up about the value and go with it to then criticise the company... but like I said this is probably the best value thing I've bought in a long while in the game...

So I bought a 75 box bundle.  I've opened 41 of the boxes.  I'm at 26550 gold so far, over 2 mil credits, probably 2 weeks of prem time, a bunch of garage slots (which I, admittedly, didn't really need)...and, oh yeah, a Sentinel.   It's by no means a bad value, and I'm not sweating not getting a Type 59 yet in the least.

Edit: I ended up about where @kaneaaa did, minus the patriot.  Bumped me up to level X, so I now have four female crew members waiting to be recruited.  I can live with that.

75 boxes: 37900 gold, 45 days of premium, 4.2 million credits + T28E30, AC1(aka 500k credits ) Plus the Christmas thingies. I didn't get any tier 8 prem.
