AMX M4 mle 1951 Appreciation thread

After having endured the AMX 65T, which is a bag of flaming poo that burned out, was rewarmed up and set on fire again, you get to the magnificence that is the AMX M4 51. This thing is GOOD. Decently mobile, with enough frontal armor to shrug off hits with sub-280 pen guns, and a punchy, well-handling 120 mm gun. I've been playing it ridiculously aggressively to fantastic effect. Hide from those who throw premium and from high pen guns, bully everything else. The downsides so far are paper-thin sides which lend themselves to @CraBeatOff and the Chode$starz, a gigantic turret which has to be kept pointed straight lest the back be exposed, and armor that is solid but can melt relatively fast once faced with 300+ pen rounds as it is difficult to angle and nigh-impossible to sidescrape.

Oh man, when I got that top engine... felt so good! Sadly, people already learned to shoot premium ammo at this tank on EU, so its a hit or miss whether you have a good game. But I still love it.

What is your opinion on the 120mm vs 127mm? Is the small increase in alpha worth being worse in every thing else?

On paper the 127 seems flat-out worse, and 400 alpha with a brisk reload is a good place for a T9 heavy IMO. Plus the higher APCR pen comes in handy vs the hordes of Badgers and Type 4/5s and Mausen. In that Ace Tanker game, I punched APCR through a Badger's face, and in the 3rd I needed it for Type 4/5.

Right now, my plan is to unlock the 10, keep the 9 and then work on the 127. I'll give it a try, but that's a distinctly long-term plan.

Ye 120 mm is a way to go on this one. However, if you go for the tier 10, use the big gun on that one. 2.2k DPM + 400 alpha is way worse than the 280 gold pen the 130 mm has, especially when the tank is mobile and has good accuracy.

The M4 51 is fantastic, it just is capable of doing practically everything. It competes for being one of the best tier 9s in the game IMO.

It's not top tier, but it's definitely good. Since I'm a HEATnoob I never had trouble playing against it, but teammates playing it seem able to bully the lesser standard round plebs pretty well, regardless of player skill

the new french tanks are just weak to raw penetration, thankfully tier 9 tanks tend to not see a lot of tier 10 TDs and instead tend to see a shit load of pref MM tier 8 HTs.

T-10 is kinda different, it is bit better heavium than this but way worse as actual heavy.

AMX is more like Conqueror if anything that has way better LFP, better mobility and DPM but worse depression and complete lack of sidescraping ability.

Maybe not news for anyone but tier 9 tanks seems like real winners of 3-5-7 matchmaking. Even worst case there is only 3 higher tiers tanks in enemy team (some of which can be scouts, arties etc) and power difference between t10 and t9 is not that much. And even in this case half of enemy team is lower tiers to seal club.

And when t9 is top tier its just disgusting going against helpless t7's. Also t9 tanks do not get full same tier matches like T10 gets pretty often.

Tier 7s are pretty weak compared to some of the new Tier 8 monsters, and T9 always has T8s to farm, well, almost always.

Big fan of the 127mm. It's a side grade from the E75, trading pen and side armor for speed, accuracy and dpm. Great bully, great mm tier and a nice flavor.

You can get 5 tier 10s as a tier 9.  Happens, albeit not super-frequently.

Im debating the 120mm vs 127 when I unlock the tank. On one hand, the 120mm seems like it'll allow easier dealing with Super HTs given the better APCR pen. But, the 127 has the fuckyouOverMatchYourArmorBitch ability and better alpha when you're someone who tends to trade... dilemma.

You already have your choice of 120mm tier IX platforms. Go for flavor country.

Ok, I fucking love the 127mm. Heres why:

Alpha is god. Gun handling is good enough. Fuck you STRVs cause overmatch. 

It will struggle against tier 9 and 10 super heavies. And, Ive come close to running out of ammo. But what the hell, its a fucking Super Pershing without the spaced armor and fewer weak spots. RR,22, lololol. It feels like a HT that, as long as its not an HE cunt in a Type 4 or 5, can do pretty well for itself. I love it

And, aced somehow with 1351 base EXP
