So having played a bit of L4D2 again lately, I am reminded of the joys of having a system wherein a team can select members of their side for penalizing (in L4D2, via kicking them from the game) - I'm wondering what you'd think if WG were to implement a system whereby a certain quorum of team members (I dunno, say 8 out of 15) could submit a complaint against a teammate for being a bot, whereupon the offending player would automatically turn blue?  I realize that the systems like this are highly subject to abuse - which is why you'd want a fairly high threshold.  Since there is automatic blue-ness for tk'ing/team damage, but since I personally see way more offenders just being bots (in the true sense - not bad players, literally bots), it seems a bit out of sync to have no method whereby those players can be penalized in-game (I've submitted at least a couple of tickets for players who were clearly bots, then seem them a day or later, after hearing back that my ticket had been handled, and thought...wtf?).

Just curious what folks would think.  As a rule, I don't find that this gets overused in L4D2, but you don't have things like clans and such there (at least not among the guys w/whom I play), and it's a really old game - I doubt anyone under 25 still plays it (which is a shame, b/c it's a blast).

No.  Too many actual players who are just really fucking bad would get swept up in the process - and while I'm not saying that's a bad thing from my own personal point of view, it would be bad for the health of the game especially since NA server population is already pretty low compared to EU/RU.  You know for a fact that those people who would keep getting mistakenly flagged as bots won't think "wow I must be really bad if people think I'm a bot, I should improve", they'll think "STUPID FUCKING UNISCUM STAT PADDING SHITLORD FAGGOTS KEEP LABELING ME AS A BOT FUCK GOLD SPAMMERS WINRATE IS LUCK I PLAY FOR FUN" and then just quit the game.

I actually haven’t notice any/many bots recently. If I see someone with like 15k games and a <100 WN8, I pay attention.  I usually ask if they are “Special Needs”, because I don’t want to rage on someone who is acually disables.  I’d say 50% respond (which is hilarious most of the time) and the other half are just really bad. If you see them looking around or not just driving in a straight line, it’s probably not a bot.

I do wish WG would institute a ZERO XP policy for load and leave.

You don’t move = 0 XP and full repair bill

No for 2 reasons. Firstly, an afk tank can spot enemies and be a meat shield. A blue / dead tank cannot, therefore afk is more use full than a dead one.

Reason 2 is that I have had an entire team of dead players call me a bot despite my 6k dmg and trying to 1v3 at the end of the game, or getting into a prime spotting bush in a light tank in the beginning of the game and then a bunch of idiots complain that I'm not spotting things for them since the enemy team is also camping and then start referring to me as a bot. Even had a WT E100 back when they were still in the game put 3 shots into my but while I was in the magic bush on Prok because he wanted me to yolo down the 1 line and I ignored him.

183 and waffle both referred to me as a bot / inactive player. I was second on dmg. I was more passive than I needed to because A, I suck at TD's and B, the JPE can literally 1 shot me from full hp.

I figured it would likely be a nonstarter, but I thought I'd toss it out.  Saw a guy yesterday, something like 30k games, but 1000+ of those in the last 24 hours, his graphs are straight lines until yesterday - that seems like a pretty sure indicator of someone who's botting.  But yeah, I agree with the potential for abuse.  Just scratching my head trying to think if there were any good solution to this.  And I'm pretty sure most bot programs can actually navigate in something other than a straight line.  It wouldn't be terrifically difficult to have collision, slope, and incoming fire detection (and I'd suspect most do).

Mob justice is never going to work, especially given how irrational and hate filled the mob is.

I can find tons of reasons for people to abuse this process over their hate on unicums.

This^  but for basically any reason.

If the whole T-22 fiasco should have taught you anything it is that you shouldn't under any cicumstances allow players to democratically punish players.

If anything they should implement a Karma-system where people can compliment other players on the team who are not total dicks who then in turn may get a reward if they recieved X amount of Karma in Y amount of games, this would help alleviate the toxicity of all the dipshits seemingly infesting the random battle mode.

It would definitely be abused big time. Instead of bots and bot-like players, good players would be the one's punished more frequently. I'm all for banning bots and players who ruin games for others but not like this as there's just too high of a chance for friendly fire.

While I like that idea, I think it could also be abused. You'd have to limit it so that players cannot give karma to other players who are on their friends list, or are in the same clan as them. With that limitation however, I feel like it would be an awesome idea.

Sounds like a bad idea to me. My father plays this game and his overall WN8 is 700 and WR is 47%. Worst noticeable stats are with the M46 with 42,44% WR and 271 WN8 with 570 DPG. And I can assure he's not a bot, he's just so bad at the game it hurts by brain to watch him play.

His situation really opened my eyes on what comes to messaging shitters after the game, which I dont do anymore at all. Some people are just so clueless about the mechanics and meta so there's no point in calling them out.

This is a very good example. I too am guilty sometimes of messaging bad players especially when their actions lead to making mistakes that seem of monumental stupidity to myself but may be viewed differently by those players where perhaps it really was a difficult situation for them.

This, good players would get voted just because the shitters don't like them or thought they didn't carry them hard enough.

It's like Brexit, you don't let idiots make important decisions that impact others, it never works out well as they are too ignorant to see what is going on.

Some good player falls back because a flank is lost, clearly the best tactical decision, but the shitters see it as the uniscum screwing their team to go farm WN8 from the back. Had it last night, was playing Murovanka, whole team decides to ignore the forest, I am in largely paper med so I have no choice but to support from the back (not really the red line but the hill just behind the brawling corner). The idiot heavies, despite having more tanks lose their brawl, plus we get surrounded from all sides, because hur durr if you leave the map open you lose map control and get surrounded. I'm last one alive fighting a horde (cos getting more than two shots of damage in tier 9s is hard apparently) and I'm coping abusing from my dead team mates for being a camper noob.  If we had that system I'd have been voted as a bot, probably wouldn't have impacted me because there was no one left on the team, but there would be plenty of times where it would.

Best comment I have seen in a while.

Players would use this to penalize other players that aren't being bots.  Butthurt layers would use this to penalize players in clan wars reward tanks or rare premium tanks.  They would also use it to penalize good players playing properly and not YOLOing to die just because some baddie tells them to spot.

I had network issues recently, a bad vpn router to be specific.  It kept dropping connection.  It did it during a game and my M 103 was trying to climb a wall.  I'm sure everybody thought I was a bot.  I got killed before I could get control of the tank after reconnecting.
