What happened to this game: my opinion

Recommended Posts

Really it's pretty simple... They never had any sort of "competitive matchmaking", in wargamings case it would be clan wars.

Had they done this, all the top end players would be out of the general pool and not killing bad people...

Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and disagree with you on that one.

Its been hashed out pretty well that Skill based MM wouldn't work with the populations that we have in this game

ffs - I didn't even see that this was in the planes section.

You happened to this game. You and your cronies clubbed and killed whatever was left of the NA playerbase since release. Stop pretending it's not your fault that the game has been on life support before it even came out, because you sure as fuck didn't help when everybody else predicted the effects of your overfishing.

EU player here. Can you elaborate on what happened or happens?

I'd be willing to forgive a ton of the game's issues with balance, MM, bad mechanics, et cetera if only the randoms properly rewarded individual effort and didn't completely waste your energy every time your team decides to have downs syndrome. In the past, even the incompetent players understood that they had roles to fulfill and at least tried to do them. Now, even that is too much to ask. It would be nice to be able to rely on pubbie teams, but its just not happening. And we can see that the various playstyles have all been merging closer and closer together, more and more overlap. The whole concept has devolved into "roll through corridor, load code 22, LMB."

Murazor happened. Short term mindset to not remove arty from the game. Incompetence and focusing only on getting as much money as possible.

Wrong game

I'd like to think, that he was making a joke. At least it gave me a chuckle reading about artillery in a WoWP subforum.

It's really best to ignore anything haswell says, he's an embarrassment. At one point wargaming invited us on a stream to tell the community how to win more, strategies and tips etc, and the entire time he was just disruptive and called us liars and said on the stream we were purposely giving bad advice to make our opponents worse so we can kill them easier... It's just not the behavior of a rational, or sane, person. He probably would have been wearing a tinfoil hat if he had a webcam.

They make up some nonsense about abusing the MM or flights when none of those things ever actually happened...  Just listen to them trying to explain away everything, tinfoil hats the lot of them.

It's been what, 4 years, and they still can't admit they just couldn't beat us? We still laugh about it to this day, I only posted here because me and crayola were cracking up about it last night on discord and wanted to see if I came here and posted 4 years later how quickly the same people would materialize out of the woodwork to claim we were cheating... point proven.

I don't see any accusations of cheating anywhere here.

Its more accusations of seal clubbing on a monumental scale :/

See I just don't get this logic

Most played plane tier 9 with 92.2% winrate.. second most tier 8 89% winrate..... "Seal clubbing" okay?

There's.. a lot of reasons Warplanes died. one big one is that the game was never good. It was always an inferior version of War Thunder planes, which had already been dominating the market.

Nobody knows what you're talking about. Or gives a shit. You got any proof to back up your claims about Haswell?

What happened to this game.

The long story is the same as the short story.

It sucked ass more than it didn't and no-one wanted to play. The people who did want to play found that getting continually reamed by Bandet and his chums was about as fun sticking your dick in a wood-chipper and all moved on to better things in life.

In a sense, Bandet should be commended as he helped those of us who did play WoWP move on with our lives to better things.

TL;DR: Bandet won, everyone else lost (and then won by moving on to less cancerous things...hopefully)

It completely failed to interest me. Arcade flight games are always a huge snoozefest in my opinion, and it seems like their customers agreed. I can't agree at all that the lack of support for high end players made a difference - WoWP could have had the most advanced clan wars and "esports" scene in existence and it still would have flopped.

Sealclubbing is terrible, but I'm under the impression that it was more a symptom of a dead game than the cause.

WoWP was DoA, I remember trying it for a few hours in beta and shortly after release. I think I quit it after 2 days and never looked back. It's been so long I can't remember any details, just that it was pretty ass in general and seemed like something they hardly bothered supporting to begin with. It also didn't help that WT was doing all of it better with way prettier graphics while being able to run at 60 FPS on a TI-86.

Frankly, if you look at how they treated tanks and boats compared to planes, it's kinda baffling. I'm almost certain that WG did it to stick it to Gaijin and nothing else, since WoWP came out 6 months before WT tanks. Maybe they marketed it harder in NA, I don't know, but as an EU player I didn't see shit about WoWP outside them pushing it cross-client for a bit.

Game was hot ass from the start, and the dude who made this post has more games played than people who actually played the game.

I refrain from letting people know in other games that I was a really good World of Tanks player, I can't imagine letting someone know you were a good WoWP player.

I remember Jingles doing a couple of WoWP videos and his lack of enthusiasm was obvious from the start.  Even he could not shill the game and nobody else did either.

Quick name 5 WoWP streamers . . . . . . . . . .  . . . . . . . . . . . yeah, nobody else could either.

I remember seeing one of his videos where he was going through the wowp tutorial..

and he spent like 12 minutes criticizing the default controls because they weren't the same as WT controls or whatever.

like, make some legitimate criticisms of the game, there are PLENTY of things that are worth complaining about... but complaining about the default controls is a dumb one.

I remember those videos myself, and couldn't help but facepalm repeatedly given how that was his prime focus. Controls were decent so long as you had a flight stick.

There were honestly a ton of things which killed this game. Admittedly a lack of enthusiasm from streamers or youtubers contributed but not much. Competition from War Thunder was certainly a major factor as well. But in addition to that? Numerous changes they kept making while leading up to the release of the game played a part.

For instance, changing the way the various aircraft of every nation- at all tiers- performed and giving them all some kind of nation-based performance gimmick. Or adding extreme shell dispersion, which in some cases resulted in machine gun rounds literally exiting the barrel at a 45 degree angle, or crap like that. There were some other things as well but it's been so long since that I can't remember them all.

Seal-clubbing was a problem too but,  it was also an unavoidable symptom of the fact that there just weren't many people playing the high tiers, meaning most of the more skilled players were forced to hang around tier 4-6, where you could actually get a match.

And as for why you beat us way back then, specifically in the release tournament? I'll put my ego aside for a moment and just say that's very simple; You guys put in the work to get better, and we didn't. You guys were playing together day after day after day, you had good communication, good group cohesion, and a ton of practice. Us on the other hand? We had none of those things. Only a few of us were actively playing WoWP on a regular basis by that time, and when it came time for the release tournament, we were largely a disjointed, overconfident mess, and after winning everything in beta leading up to that, we thought Dracs would be a pushover... and they weren't. Basically, it was the 2016 election and we were Hillary.
