  • Steppes - 16 (+1) This map has some very nice dynamic pushes on the flanks where you can set up crossfires that I enjoy playing , because I always know I can have a sexy game.

  • Paris - 12-3 = 9. This is the least fun city map in my experience. I genuinely liked Stalingrad. Kharkov wasn't good, but was better than this. There is usually a large contingent from each team that just camps in the north and stares at grass.

  • Airfield - 15-3 = 12. This map has improved slightly, but I still don't like it. There are long lines of fire for invisible TDs. The places where tanks tend to cluster are cramped and have awkward terrain. My enjoyment of the battle usually depends on the number of artillery in the game and the number of enemies who are sniping. Unless I'm in an unarmored TD, in which case a fun game is one where the enemy team makes stupid pushes but not too quickly.

  • Murovanka - 15+1=16 this has always been my favourite map for some reason. One of the few maps where vision games are still possible, it has great variety, its not just a stupid corridor brawl like most maps these days. Most of the fighting is based on abusing terrain. Its just enjoyable to play on.

  • Paris - 6-3 = 3 worst map in the game, has been since its release. Though lately WG seems to be trying to outdo themselves with it.
  • Pilsen - 15-3=12 I liked pilsen in its previous form. But the current re release is absolutely trash. The entire field area was changed from a good, interesting place to fight, to a useless kill zone with nothing but deceptive cover that isnt actually cover, two obvious stupid camping spots that invalidate most of the actual cover, and its just shit in general ugh. The 1 line wasnt really improved, just made different. But it feels less fun to play as well.

I am not a fan of Paris, but it is actually (and strangely) my highest average performing map across the board except for lights. Abbey being my worst map in general. 

 

+1 El Halluf - only good map left in the game with this meta

- 3 Erlenberg - shit rework that turned a good map into unplayable

-3 Abbey - arty and HE meta makes this map unplayable, I generally just leave during countdown if its full T10 and 3 arty

Good luck doing anything without getting fucked in the ass by TD's. Paris is a shithole map too but I would rather play a Paris 24/7 map rotation than touch this giant steaming turd ever again. The fact that this is still at 15 shows that nobody here plays the game much anymore.

Yes, Erlenberg was one of my favorites too. I can’t figure out how to play it now in the few games I’ve had since coming back. 

Actually, all of my favorite maps have either been removed are changed such that they don’t play anything like they did previously.

FTR the only good map is El Halluf :doge: 

Every other map is either imbalanced to a side (Ruinberg, Live Oaks, Mannerheim, Sand River etc), terrible after 1.0 with the small changes (Siegfried Line and Himmels etc) or have terrible gameplay dynamic (Steppes, Airfield, Abbey and every new map since 2013). 

Maps like Prokh, Mali, Redshire, Muro, Karelia and so on are all lineup specific. Most maps short of Abbey/everything (except Overlord IMO) after 2014  have those specifics too, they're generally just harder to come by. When it comes to how reliably good games you can get then Prokh is obviously the number one map in the game across the board for people that know how to abuse vision together with reading deployment spreads blindly etc, but that map fucking sucks dick in inaccurate heavies when there's 3 arties so is it really a quality map when your tank choice loading in can render you close to useless just like that?

Highway - 9 (-3) - I don't understand why they bothered to bring it back in such an unaltered state. Large map where everyone is funneled into the two opposing corners. I do feel it's imbalanced towards the north spawn as well.

Mountain Pass -  6 (-3) - **** this map. In higher tiers, it is entirely possible to be spotted and deleted attempting to cross the middle, and if you're a slow heavy, forget even getting across without bleeding half or all of your hitpoints. Basically 3 super-narrow corridors with zero flanking opportunities. Hate it with a passion.

Murovanka - 17 (+1) - Probably one of the slightly more balanced maps in the game, and has options for most types of tanks.

Province - 12

I always liked highway. it was balanced to both spawns before they removed it, but the changes they made in 1.0, while small, completely fucked it for the south spawn meaning that the south gets absolutely destroyed in the field because they made the ridges to get to the A1 corner higher up and less cover from base campers in the north.

I always liked highway. it was balanced to both spawns before they removed it, but the changes they made in 1.0, while small, completely fucked it for the south spawn meaning that the south gets absolutely destroyed in the field because they made the ridges to get to the A1 corner higher up and less cover from base campers in the north. 

Well, I guess you don't play too many slow tanks. This fucking map made me drop my E3 mark by one percent 3 times because I spawned south. 2 times due to a fucking fast cap from the enemy team that just rolled over north.

  • Pilsen - 12 - 3 = 9 Map fucking sucks now. Before the rework the field was a useful place to go and a fun place to fight. they removed both of those features from it, while not making the rest of the map any better to compensate.

I even enjoy empires border and studzianki more purely because with those Im not reminded of what used to be.

Im also going to go out on a limb here and say that I don't think WG have actually IMPROVED any map with any of the 1.0 changes they made when HDing all the maps. At best they made the maps the same, but for most of them they've added some stupid places that didn't need to exist, or removed some areas, even small, that didn't need to be removed (E.G lots of rock terrain making dropping off hills almost impossible now without killing yourself such as going down that cliff in the dip on the north of El halluf, or even dropping off the mines hill)

@Assassin7 removed Province, presumably by accident, so I've added it and also alphabetized the maps that were at the bottom of the list after Widepark so that it's easier to read the list and notice errors.

  • Ensk - 15-3 = 12. A small map that still manages to have big map problems like difficulty defending the base in time and invisible snipers.The city brawl can be fun and there are reasonable opportunities to flank if you win territory. But if the city brawl gets concentrated and you can't flank, angry allies ram you to assert ownership over the cramped space. Recent changes to the map seem to have made flanking via the middle harder to do.

  • Province - 12+1 = 13. Maybe my latest hiatus from the game has addled my mind too much, but I've been enjoying the newest version of this map. I normally hate small maps, but this one has managed to win me over. It doesn't feel like most other maps. There is enough hard cover in the right places to avoid a fair fraction of artillery shells after the first one and before the endgame. Tanks get split into an interesting set of locations, often at different altitudes. It doesn't feel like a copy of other maps.

  • Siegfried Line - 12-3 = 9. This map makes me feel like a worse player. I need remedial instruction in how to play it. The north spawn has an easier time grabbing territory in the city. Arty always seems to find a line of fire to any alley. There are a lot of places where advancing from your position changes the lines of fire for you enough that allies who don't follow your lead can't help you, and I find it hard to make things happen.

Kewei cited the sameness of maps as one of the reasons he stays away from the game. This has been a problem for ages, and Wargaming are glacially slow to respond to player feedback about map design. Pearl River and Northwest and South Coast could have been fixed a year ago. I think Sacred Valley deserves another chance. And Stalingrad was one of the more interesting city maps, with lots of lines of fire and paths to flank. I know Empire's Border is disliked, but (as someone who plays only Standard mode) I've been enjoying the fresh look and feel. I think it was designed on the bones of Swamp.

I've never figured out the right way to brawl on the west side, especially if you're one of 3+ heavies on that flank. Got any decent replays?

I only ever really go forest no matter what side of the map or tank I am in, so no not really unfortunate
