really as soon as they started releasing premiums that were blatantly better than their tech tree counterparts. Some vehicles were in the past, but WG just started shitting them out. Patriot. AMX M4 49. Defender. Skorpion. one after another.

The skorp was somewhat of an unknown as there was discussion that camo mattered. While those that knew how to vision already knew it didn't. The defender tho was basically universally condemd as broken, even by the most biased, and yet was still released as is.

The biggest joke here is that the Borsig which has a max speed of 35 kmh compared to skorpions 60, can't even bush camp like a skorpion because the accuracy is literally .05 worse and 10% greater aim time, for what, 200 more dpm. That's why I use the 155 on borsig because it's just trash compared to skorp.

Skorp G sold like hotcakes. It was the first premium that was outright better than the tech-tree t8 tank that WG sold and it sold millions.

 

That pretty much completely upended their premium tank philosophy from then onwards.

I miss you all! I remember sitting down loading up WoT on release day, I was just a kid sitting in a loveseat clicking on pixel tanks with an old laptop that's now under my bed. So many years, but my favorite was around the time of the first campaign, 2013.

I think one thing that bothers me is that many of the older premium tanks have become obsolete and left to rust and some new ones too are dropped with very little fanfare like they know it. Not every tank has to be a progetto (pls no), but many premium tanks are really quite awful vehicles. I played a couple games in a couple of premiums I got for free like the FV201 (worse black prince) and the CDC, and was instantly reminded why I never play them.

It really feeds into this feeling when I meet defenders, LT-432, EBR 75's, scorpion g's, Progettos (to name a few) that I'm putting myself at a disadvantage because I'm not paying. And combined with new lines often being overturned, or flavor of the month tanks being overtuned (for months), playing casually seems to be almost punished. And I really don't feel like dropping more time or money into the game in the current state its in, when I can go buy a game like XCOM: Chimera Squad for 1/3rd the cost of a tier 8 premium that seemingly inevitably is going to be powercrept.

The most i have done in the game is buy a few of the lootboxes for the awesome styles and a gold top up.

 

I havent spent more than $40 in at least 3 years.

My money has instead gone into a gatcha game, expensive plastic, good food and other games.

when I started in 2011 was the best, I have played the game on one computer with my best friend and I was hooked for years.

I have enjoyed a good 5 years then it went down until I decided to quit in 2018.

Honestly I would play this game from time to time but only on a random account without any serious purpose.

Memories will never fade though and my final place in IDEAL was great with all the people at that.

Once I was in KITTY (if anyone left here remembers that clan) and got chance to take part in one of campaigns. Thus 907th. It was damn fun. I remember trying to poke above those rocks on Mines hill with M26 thinking my mantlet will hold all the shots, but it didn't. Commander did have something to say about that 

I have no idea how pleb like me got chance to play with those people, but I would pay to do that again.

Then there were weekends when we would play platoon drunk with friend. SU-152 derp yolo. It was back when gold ammo for credit's was just idea.

I feel like there's a level of nostalgia bating to this event, which suggests that WG recognizes its playerbase had an appreciation for the older days of WoT.  Somehow though, their development direction seems oblivious to that.

I might actually give this game a serious shot again if Wargamming had a sudden change of heart and introduced monthly patches that included buffs and nerfs, instead of the perpetual "collecting data" cycle we see with the added "we're waiting on this feature to change it". Even if it didn't or only marginally improved the state of balance in the game.
