Way back in 2016 we had Unconventional WoT Opinions 2 and, before that, the original thread in 2014. I seriously recommend reading through these, they're a blast from the past.

I want to hear about your wot opinions that'd get you tossed out of the wotlabs window. Extra brownie points if they are extra zany.

I’m asking because I have trouble coming up with possible reasons and I’d like to hear them just because I can’t figure them out on my own besides the old tilt of it RNGing out a few games in the wrong favour - it’s my highest rated T9 med without a 300+ gold round

I just hate the gun, terribly unreliable unless you're straight up in their face and even then it'll find a way to donk the shot anyway. They nerfed the dispersion values so it's even more unreliable now. 380m viewrange means its harder to reach max VR than same-tier meds, especially since I don't really like running food on it (it buurns). The mobility is a touch worse than contemporary medium tanks but I could deal with that since the armor was good enough.

I did ok in it when I played it, I just didn't enjoy the experience the entire time I had it. Not to to worry friend it's just RNG-based hate :doge:

  1. Not nerfing gold ammo and instead buffing armour and removing weakspots (to make gold ammo less effective) is the worst thing WG did since they added tier 10 TDs
  2. Wheeled vehicles dont work, they are either shit, or OP, a nice idea, but just no (not that unconventional i think)
  3. Adding autoloaders and good gun depression / gun handling to everything is very bad for the game and will kill it long term**

**the game is now actually slowly dieing, due to this, armour (with weakspots) is a core mechanic of wot, and what made it good, WG is basically removing it...

introduction of the non-pref premium era was a mistake

tier 8 premiums should have always remained slightly worse versions of their tech tree counterparts. 

CW/Reward tanks of any kind were a mistake, especially above tier 8.

I realised the last part could come off a bit elitist but I was genuinely curious (So wanted to clarify)
 

For what it’s worth I felt similar things but never to an extent where I felt handicapped against same tiered tanks, (supposed to be equally balanced), just T10 superheavies/E3, outside of hitting EBRs (reticle too big so dead straight shot or miss at anything above 100m) and sniping 350m+, but I also learned that trying to do accomplish those things is focusing on the wrong aspects of the tank. When I got out of my PTA/RU med/50B rut (very opportunistic gameplay, playing odds a lot, head>gut) and committed to hard aggression (gut>head) and the tank made sense to me. 
 

you get shit on by most 10s which sucks when the gun is what’s failing when it comes to fighting back, but you can literally angle 20 degrees and sit perfectly still against 3 tier 7s and kill them all with less than a quarter HP lost fighting in the open and that shit is just so busted that it compensated all the bad stuff about it - because the highs were so high to make up for it. 

That’s why I had a hard time seeing the reasoning

I think every competent player who fundamentally understands the matchmaking why premiums should be worse. (When’s the last time you had a full tier 8 without a Progetto?) I think that shouldn’t have to be considered controversial as it should be common sense. 
 

I have some serious ones too:

- Credit inflation (while a result of good things, like SHs and FL) made the game worse. It’s an easier time for everyone, that’s why it’s worse. 
 

- serB was good for the game

- Tier 10 should be more expensive to play, doubling the cost of dying but survived damage repair and ammo costs being the same

- tier 8 needs an MM nerf (it is like playing tennis with the net down guys, admit it) - every third of what would be a full t8 game right now as a t8 player should be 357 (7-8-9)

tier 10 isn’t bad, just hard 

- mechanical prowess is finite in wot, turret  rotation and bloom bottlenecks hand-eye and reaction time - it’s a tank (i get it) so it’s a necessary evil but intuition (to anticipate and make up for the fact that it is a tank) isn’t something you can build gameplay reliably upon and i think it’s much of the reason the game is in it’s current state
 

pretty much the entire playerbase is blaming way too many of their own misplays and chalk it up to arty when it’s not

HE ammo as a concept might have done wonders IRL but in game it is literally in 99 of cases a big old ”let me feel relevant so i can feel as a better player button” - removing it and everything that has to do with it (tanks that can fire other rounds can stay)

games should be 20 minutes, 15 on assault

garbad ban killed forum activity (Guy had to go, but I still think it’s true)

When I ground my way through the tier 9 430, I wondered what the hype was.  I'm not sure if anything has changed on the armor model since then, but tier 7's seemed to have no trouble penning it frontally.

Also, I agree the gun handling was awful, even for a tank that is suppose to be a closer range brawler/fighter.

Damage farming / trying to get as much damage (also for wn8 and meoe) has made the overal game expierence worse for anyone.

  • Unicums camp in the back instead of lead from the front, in the past winratio was everything, dmg didnt matter, that is all long gone
  • Joe avg sees the purple camp in the back farm dmg, and starts to copy this
  • Streamers play passive, and try to get damage, again, joe avg sees this and copies this
  • Playing for dmg is even more frustrating as playing for the win.

Damage farming promotes bad gameplay, helped turning the game in a campfest and is in the end a stupid way to play, if WG had made raw exp as stats available, we would never had this dmg epeening, but instead exp / win% whoring (which are both far better)

ps: and those who say you can pad winrate so easy, show me those 75% winratios, guess what, 99.99% of the wot player base never could and never will be able to do so, not consistend over thousands of games, the arty of winning is lost and will never come back...

and the ISU was at one time the highest damage non-artillery in the game at 750 alpha. it should've stayed that way. then we got 850 damage TD's, 750 damage heavies, 1000+ damage TD's etc.

more of a personal thing, but i honestly hate MoE's 

outside of promoting "bad gameplay" MoE's in general are my most hated goal to achieve in this game, they cause me far more frustration than purple point farming ever could, especially going from 90-95%. the level of consistency required in a game that is anything but consistent is often very tilting, and in the end the satisfaction of having those 3 little digital marks on ur tank isnt worth the effort.

and yet i cant seem to stop myself from trying time to time

These are some of the ideas that pass through the generally very empty halls of my mind. Most of the time they echo around without meeting another thought. Sometimes I have 2 ideas in the same day.

  1. Instead of removing team damage they should have made it reflective.
  2. Suicide should result in the person paying everyone's repair bill for that game.
  3. Instead of buffing bad tanks they should nerf good tanks. It would prevent power creep.
  4. If they sold Phil Swift as a commander for 20 bucks I would buy him. i just want my TC to scream "NOW THAT'S A LOT OF DAMAGE! HOW 'BOUT A LITTLE MORE?" every time I shoot someone with a big gun.
  5. The 1.0 graphics update fucked the physics engine. Why the hell are all rocks covered in soap now? And why the hell isn't WG trying to fix it?
  6. Where the hell is the AFK Panther? I really miss that little bastard.
  7. All the things that made tier 6 light tanks unique and fun were removed in 9.18. Also rest in peace M41 Walker Bulldog. 
  8. High explosive shells should not be able to damage internal modules and crew members without penetrating or at least directly impacting armor plates.
  9. Pagan online was even worse than World of Warplanes.

Kewei's e1 take actually still holds. 1600 clip with that mm is ridiculous. 

Stb1 got nerfed with the gun change cause the increase in dpm isnt worth the loss of alpha. Buzzsawing through things just doesnt happen enough.

This game was better balanced when SerB was involved.



Also WOT Blitz is just straight up a better game. Biggest reason being that the maps are much better and more dynamic. There's no impassable hull-down corridors; every time someone tries there's a pretty easy way to go around them. Makes medium and light tanks much more viable. That and gold ammo is actually balanced.

I absolutely agree that the 430 would destry anything tier 7 and tier 8s will still have some trouble fighting you, but the bulk of your matches are against 9s and 10s due to matchmaking (at least here on NA, tier 7 matches were pretty rare) and at that point I might as well have the flexibility to control my engagements instead of trying to dogfight tanks that would make quick work of me

If I had to call it something I'd call it IS-6 Syndrome: Kill anything below you but have trouble with tanks same tier or higher

For whatever reason the forum sort of died the summer before garbad got banned, there wasn't any unusual activity drop from the ban itself. I wonder what happened that summer though. Maybe we were all so mad the aufklpanther was replaced that summer that we quit.

...speaking of I think the aufklpanther wasn't that bad if you spammed gold.

I absolutely fucking hated 430, and didn't get to enjoy the really broken OP 430U due to my hate of the 430.
There is nothing that tilts me harder than a gun that is inconsistent.
