Right & Wrong Ways to Tank

In February, 78 years after this guide was printed, I was at the NY public library learning tank tactics. Since current circumstances prevent y'all from making the same pilgrimage, I am posting these pearls of wisdom here.

If I've learned anything from the official forums and the 2.5k and 3k damage Chuck missions, they are for the majority of the player base, keeping in mind that the average forumite is already above average.

It's just weird to me, I remember back in the day when you could not see how much damage you did after a game and had to use a mod to see damage numbers instead of just seeing tank health % so we used to use the kill count and experience as metrics. Even with all that my wn7 was still around 500 and my WR was around 49% so I just don't understand with all the information available on this game nowadays that there are worst players than that. All I had were videos from ToFuSmurf to get better.

You've always been able to see damage done after a game, at least since the beta test. We just didn't have a damage log during the match.

Actually he might be right, I found some of my old screenshots and I can't find damage dealt, even personally. You can sort of tell by how many pens you had but that's all I see.

Well, the main takeaway for me from this guide was that going hull down in the M3 Lee limits use of the 75mm gun.

Not an issue, just use the turret's 37mm. It has superb DPM, although it's kind of a needle-gun.

All going forward at the same time is also a usefull lesson for joe avg in wot... (right tile on 2e row)

And helping a td or heavy getting flanked (the last one)

i have to say, right way in doing things and the wrong. i am the idiot, i take all the responsibility, in simply not using the AP

opponent had minimal HP after a shot of damage, so i pre-loaded HE to finish it off.  terrible choice, proceeded to bounce off next 3 HE shots (not gun or track hits either) and i died as result. 3 time straight, 0 damage roll. whoever started that saying you hear people meme all the time, HE always damage, is very wrong too

i don't have sympathy for HE apologists. except maybe  POS  like 1,400 HE type 5, that is gone for good reason.  the way i see it, HE is doing zilch, nothing, 0....  25% of the time. the times you actually get half damage? i would say 1in10. not even after half damage, all wanted was 15HP....not even 10%   the time i actually need it, like base reset or finish off 15HP enemy, always fails. life saving throw and WG consistency, at work here

and if anyone wants to hear more of it, me whining over inconsistency....

my gun here was that british 17 pounder. it has 190 average damage HE ammo. Apparently, 3 direct hits don't cause even 15HP damage, not even 1 point.  and when some jerk in cromwell, shoot HE at my 85M with 175 average damage,  i take 50 damage points roll.  just because, cry in the corner,  and stop cry kid

Has it occured to you, that your HE isn't penetrating the armor, as it lacks penetration and the external explosion is soaked up by the thick armor? The error is most always found between the seat and the keyboard...

HE should be used at the weakest part of the armour, so weakspot on the turret roof, or next to the gun mantle (so the explosion goes down, into the hull roof)

yes, for sure. i agree 200%,  not penetrating. 

i wasn't looking for penetration, i was looking for 15 HP worth of splash. with ammo that you at least expect 15HP damage, with 190 base explosion

you mean to tell me someone can't even expect HE shell to detonate, and deal 7% of its listed damage?  And not just that, 3 time in row?

here is the issue:

fast forward to 7:20 and watch. this game just cackoa on you when you need it most.  happens all the time, when you need it

but when you don't need it, 85M load HE expecting type 64, but instead surprise by cromwell, shoot HE anyway and load AP for next shot. HE damages cromwell, like 50%. 100+  Wtf? 

just now ambushed progetto with my mutz, first shot advantage. he at 231HP. i low-roll my 250 alpha, he survive and proceed to burst me for 720 straight in the face after. Wtf that. not right at all, working for third mark, deal with that shit.  no consistency, just eat cackoa and stop cry kid.

      1 battle, 1 Ace tanker. Has insane armour, is fast as a medium, has no weakspots frontally from what I can tell, has insane gun handling. WTF WG?!

      Funnily enough. It is propably one of the most realistic premium tanks or tanks in general we got in a long time. Despide being from an Anime.

      Been struggling with tier 10 since coming back - jesus christ this is awful. If you don't play something OP you feel like a tier 9 in a tier 10 game. 
      Got an account with a 0 game FV215b that I marked (69 games, just barely 4k dpg lmao) - wound up running the equipment piece that prevents fires and the same directive after the same amount of fires as amount of games in a 10 game session (got lit 3 times in one game...) but after that I never got set on fire again. Totally worth putting those up and giving up vents so you can actually use the HP without a fuel tank fire. Been noticing that a lot of casemate TDs are running new equipment as well (7.5s was pretty much enough RLD to permatrack anything until it dies and it is not anymore. It's closer to 6, so I'm assuming it's the equipment since it also varies heavily.)
       
      907 yoloing with optics+directive is sort of working, I'm keeping 85 but getting good enough of a session without a derp to fall back down after climbing up is so rare with how common the absolutely worst maps are. I have played 8 times the amount of Erlenberg as I have Prokh (assault and encounter enabled), I also get a lot of Kharkov and Abbey that keep showing up too and these maps are just too poorly designed to get a good enough gameplan to fulfill the damage requirements. There's just no play that works well enough. 
       
      I tried tier 8 as well, and it's like a different game played on the same board. You get away with so much stupid shit because of gaps in view range and the overall skill level. It makes me feel like my mechanics are super clean as I can poke in to tanks pre aimed at me and fire, pull into safety/unpennable angle before they fire - but at tier 10 that is just wishful thinking. 
       
      Long way to go, I hate being this derpy in game quality which is what I'm going to work on but tier 10 is so ass..

      So, how many trees you cut down (WG send me some thing i could see funny stats)
      In total i fell 56811 trees and shot 21966 tracks and drowned 23 times
      (also mines my best map (i think?) which seems kinda right, in general i get good games there, hehe)

      Starting with update 1.12.1, it's impossible to log in without Bullshit Center running in background. No reason to keep the game on the hard drive for me. Meh...
