Hey Tankers!

The Tier VIII Swedish Bofors Tornvagn heavy tank has been sent to the closed Supertest stage.

The vehicle has a 120mm gun with 400 damage per shot. The standard APCR shell penetrates 248mm, while the special APCR shell penetrates 297mm. The shell velocity is comfortable, but it is worth remembering that APCR shells lose their penetration rate a little more with distance than AP shells. The gun has an accuracy of 0.45, an aiming time of 2s, and a reloading speed of 14s.

The turret has an unusual design. The nominal armour thickness reaches 280mm in the turret and 260mm in the hull. The gun depression elevation angles are impressive at -10/20 deg. The vehicle has 1,600HP. Its top speed is 32km/h and the power-to-weight ratio is 11.6h.p./t.

The Bofors Tornvagn is a tank that will perform well among terrain irregularities thanks to its good gun elevation/depression angles, and its rather powerful gun should help deal with any enemy. However, the relatively slow turret and hull traverse speed can make it an easy target for manoeuvrable vehicles, so you should stick with your allies.

It is slow, meh gunhandling when moving the turret, but boy does it have turret armor and pen for T8.

This could have been a good T9 premium. Just boost the dpm a bit, good gun handling more speed. Done. WG could sell a swedish Concept 1B for money.

Bofors used to be Sweden’s biggest weapons manufacturer, grew up an hour away from their main office. Pretty sure Alfred Nobel ran the company (Nobel prize guy) until they started making gun powder, used to be a steel mill before that. Company grew very aggressively due to arming Sweden during the WWs and exporting to some degree. Pretty sure BAE owns the division that makes heavy armaments now as Bofors dissolved some time in the 90s. 
 

Very typical tank for Sweden, almost everything was designed to operate on scandinavian terrain. The direct translation of Tornvagn is ”Towerwagon” which should speak to what this tanks intended purpose was. 
 

Would enjoy trying it out with a heavy aim reducing setup to get it playable in medium range. It’s DPM and VR are already beyond saving so I’d rather opt into making sure the shots don’t miss as the pen should mitigate some of the issues of center mass aiming. Playing it at ranges above 150m just seems impossible without equipping specifically for it, you won’t take damage but you’ll also not see shit and damage anything either. 
(Rammer, and some 2 combo of vstab/aim circle/irm depending on  how reticle behaves in motion)

I would have considered putting the Kunzepanzer mechanic on it and adjusting other stats to shift it from CQC to mid range as it just makes no sense with an armour profile this strong at range and giving it a gun that can’t make use of that

It'll be in the Christmas boxes. Some CC's have reviews up already, Skill and QB were both unimpressed. It's like a pre-buff T34.

So it seems the stats on tanks.gg were accurate. I cannot imagine this thing being fun to play at all. 0.44 accuracy with 0.25 turret dispersion (lol, this is worse than the Caliban!) means that even on a ridge, the moment you move your turret your aim will balloon out. The only saving grace is that because on a ridge it is basically completely invulnerable you can actually afford to just sit there aiming. Also trash view range and super-low DPM (1,600 base so basically the same as the T34 and close to worst in class/tier, with I think only some of the autoloaders having lower DPM)

Of course it will also likely be absolutely horrible to play against too, given as noted on a ridge it is invulnerable, and even on flat terrain it's very hard to pen frontally for same and lower tiers. If you get stuck in front of this thing, especially if it's on a ridge, it will just slowly kill you. I  mean, it might be good early on for bounce missions given it will likely take the pubbies some time to figure out you just cannot pen the turret at all in the vast majority of situations but that seems about it in terms of fun/interest factor.

I dunno, the new tanks for the loot boxes this year seem to be the pinnacle of WG's recent "shitty to play as and shitty to play against" design choices.

All CC videos I've seen yesterday can be pretty much summed up into "horrible to play. Horrible to play against" 

This thing should have been a T9. Be it techtree or premium. Here you could at least give it a good gun. 

At T8 WG just nerved it to the ground with horrible gun stats and shitty mobility.

And the reason it's at tier 8 is because money. 

Heck, buff the front and side turret armour a bit, and the obvious gun stats, and this wouldn't be a bad tank at tier 10 let alone 9.

I just finished grinding field mods for it.

 

It's incredibly frustrating to play, it has two gimmicks (turret armour and penetration) that are throw out the window by everything else.

Mobility is trash, 32 kph top speed won't get you anywhere quickly and, just like the maus, you need to carefully plan your route.

Gun handling is trash, 0.45 accuracy means you won't hit shit over 300m, and if you do your premium ammo drops its pen to 230 at 500m (yes, over 60mm pen dropoff).

DPM is bad, but if it had a decent gun I wouldn't mind too much. Goes from 1600ish to 400/800 effective DPM.

The hull is the worst thing though: the whole layout doesn't make sense, on flat ground people can pen you with HE and your transmission lives in the two strips ABOVE the tracks, so every shot you take damages the engine and has a chance to set you on fire.

Okay, you're supposed to hide the hull and peak with your turret but come on.

 

Caliban is much more reliable.

yeah, this tank seems rly shit, Caliban is a 50/50 tank, 1 game its good, 1 game its hate, but this one...

i might get some more boxes, but i rly hope i dont get this one, hehe

I've got it, played a handful of games in it, got the field mods. Ended up with the firepower slot to improve the gun handling and I'll just live with the poor mobility. Whenever I get more bounty equipment I'll put that on and re-spec to mobility and add a turbo, maybe, but this tank is still not fun to play so it might just be gathering dust in the garage at that point.
I've got vents, vertstab (slotted), rammer, and vents, IAU (slotted), rammer in my two setups currently. With IAU, food, and the accuracy field mod I got the dispersion down to .35, which isn't amazing but it works.

The tank works, but so does the Löwe in the same situations and I just find the latter more enjoyable and less frustrating.
As I thought, this tank feels like a pre-buff T34 - another tank that is now more enjoyable to play than the Torn.

Turbo (boosted) makes it go less painfully slow in a straight line, as soon as you dab A or D your speed drops to Titanic with broken engine levels and you still turn like an oil tanker filled to the brim with uranium.

I'm not gonna bother with bounty/bond equipment unless it gets a major buff.
