Expendable_Lad 752 Share Posted April 21, 2022 Hey Gang - Figured we'd start a sesh on the new Art of Strategy. Played a bunch of Strat v Strat when it opened this AM. It's all strategist vs strategist for a few days while everyone gets used to the mode. Here are a few takeaways: AI is dogshit. Tanks are so easy to get caught out and just get smashed, especially mediums and soft tanks. Selecting tanks like a Leopard that requires really tight play is a tough one for the AI to handle. It's so easy to forget orders. I default to the defensive mode at the start of battle. You controlling a tank turns it into a psycho killing machine. But then it's easy to forget whats going on in the rest of the map. Rockets and gun turrets are both high range arty and seem to be the most widely effective. Flame towers have given me nothing. Second choices would be AT guns or even watchtowers to work in concert with the gun turrets. Gun turrets are a bitch to take down (tiny weak spots from front and a lot of HP). Try to keep their passive defending heavies spotted for your Pretty standard lineup - Conq, Kran, 277, 121, maybe an STB for flexing. I opt for a medium w turret armor instead of an LT. Armor only matters if it can bounce heat. I thought I would be able to get some XP for my Xs, but its all pre-selected. No modules, no crews etc. For things like a heavy brawl area. Take control of your Conq/Kran and get in front hulldown with your other heavies behind you. AI seems to focus fire the closest tank so their AI will be going for your hard to hit areas and ignoring easier shots on your more exposed AI heavies behind you. AI does seem to shoot pretty well. I have no idea how any one person is going to be able to take down 7 barely competent WoT players. Even with a few rockets and things the AI is so unreliable and everyone is firing full gold. What are you guys seeing working? Jul_Le
sr360 4,987 Share Posted April 21, 2022 Only played 1 so far, Mines, and I slow played almost too much, won with seconds to spare despite a big tank advantage. My thoughts: Gun turrets are great, I'll try rockets next. Watchtower/AT guns are good defensively but not on attack Agreed, the AI is TERRIBLE. Like 35% pubbie bad. I'm wondering about taking an LT to get early vision/passive scouting for my turrets and arty. Yeah, you need armor for the most part And I agree, can't see how I'd win a 1v7 Jul_Le

I've found that (for me) massing the flamethrower, gun turret, and the AT guns with a TD providing over watch helps keep this under control.
Panzergraf 68 Share Posted April 25, 2022 I've played it a couple of times now. Definitely play the tutorial first, as there are a couple of things (like how to rotate the camera) that are not too intuitive. The AI can't sidescrape a corner, but if you park a tank (and tell it to hold position) in a hull down position, it will do that just fine. I want to experiment more with using auto loaders next time I play, as the down time between mags will give me more time to command the rest of my force. Switching between tanks and giving out move/attack commands when needed was something I struggled with a lot to begin with, but it's getting easier. Supposedly, in the 1v7 mode, the commander gets access to more defences than in 1v1, which should help a bit. Watchtowers are very useful on some maps, great camo and view range. AT guns are good if they get side shots and the enemy lets them farm. The flame turret is situational, but can dish out a lot of damage in a short time. Things I'd like to see improved: *I think Encounter mode or something like WoWS' domination mode (3+ neutral caps that give points) would be better than standard battles. Map control should matter more. *Why can't we select equipment for the tanks, or at least select between a few different loadouts? *Adding the option to play VS a friend would be nice. Obviously shouldn't count towards missions or rewards or anything though. Expendable_Lad
Expendable_Lad 752 Author Share Posted April 26, 2022 Solid comments. 7v1 available now. Going pretty much as expected. Lost to strategist once because pubbies are shit, but whatchagonnado? You can play your OWN tier Xs when going against the strategist. Can make a lot of creds 20-140k+ per battle (plus a 20k mission) and xp for your Xs - but you have to pay for your gold ammo, kit, etc. So if you want to credit grind, think hitting your shots and/or high normal AP pen tanks XP is pretty low - like 500ish per game - kind of like PvE experience in World of Warships Great for getting a feel for new Xs Note: boosters dont work in this mode

Nice dude - what's the 1v7 strat? Won 85% of 7v1, but man, a bunch of games where 3/4 teammates go down early and just scramble to do much. Strategist friendly map seems to be Mannerheim. Siegfried Line field really seems to get shut down by watchtowers too. Massive defenses tucked into a small space and pubbies who can't resist poking meds and soft tanks into the face of heavy TDs. Had two teammates with zero damage last game - against bots and installed defenses...

Had two teammates with zero damage last game - against bots and installed defenses... I got Steppes both games. I brought a VERY heavy lineup (60TP, Maus, v4, E3, Kran, 430U, Type 5). Probably can bring SC instead of one of those. Camped the boxes and v4 on the West, Kran overlooking the trench, 430U watching him, E3 on the ledge. Block the approaches with flamethrowers and put rockets in the corner. The enemy teams pushed scattershot in both and I jumped into whatever was the frontline tank and dismantled them In the first game, their 3 Leos rushed in and got picked by my flame/E3/Kran. Down tanks, I sent my v4 to their cap while my 60TP held their slow tanks from going back. Second game was closer, came down to a 2v2 with my Type 5 and E3 vs SC and T57. The type knocked the T57 to 1-shot then got rushed. E3 was sitting on the ledge, picked the SC, then the T57 tried to get behind him and my rockets took him down. Having said that, in the 1v1 mode I just take 7 fast tanks and rush to cap. You get 60 points for a win, 40 for a loss. You can get 6 losses in the time you get 1 win, so you get 2 elements in 15 mins... and about 1 in 4 you win as the enemy strat can't reset cap. Expendable_Lad
Ham_ 434 Share Posted April 28, 2022 Trying to maintain top 1000 in 1v7, it's just a question of grinding enough entry tokens which involves dealing with the pubtard cesspit that is 7v1. 1v7 is impossible to lose.
sr360 4,987 Share Posted April 28, 2022 Collected all 18 elements in about 4-5 hours of play. Good bonds/min ratio.
Panzergraf 68 Share Posted May 1, 2022 Only played 3 games of 1v7 so far (queue times have been horrible for strats), won one and lost two. Pretty fun, but way harder than 1v1. 7v1 is a whole lot of fun too, kinda ruined my 90% wr in it by mainly playing the Cent AX the past two nights, but still winning more than losing. I've got all the rewards now, but I'll definitely play some more 1v7 now that strat queue times seem to be getting better.
DrWeb7_1 7 Share Posted May 25, 2022 I didn't get any further than tutorial strategist battle. The controls are huge confusion for me.
