Otto-matic Reiffel 148 Share Posted July 10, 2018 I haven't been keeping up with WoT shenanigans for months, have Wargaming actually changed the main Asia server to be hosted in Hong Kong? Surely that would have consequences with the various Chinese internet laws and Kongzhong's WoT server.
Ezz 1,770 Share Posted July 10, 2018 HK has its own laws i would presume.

sohojacques 271 Share Posted July 10, 2018 Still 260+ Ping for me to HK. The rest of you?
Siggy 518 Share Posted July 10, 2018 I'm about 15ms on average up to HK over SG from Wellington. Had one game of about 7 where pockets were lost for a short period. The plethora of shitcunts seems exactly the same on any of the three servers. Hellvn
HemanathanRX7 136 Share Posted July 10, 2018 60ms for me, up from 1ms to Singapore. StormCrowReaperManyHats

AdrianK 588 Share Posted July 10, 2018 Just on a different subject, I don't know if any of you have noticed the MM-Rng-Luck site returning 403 errors? That's what happens when it breaches the daily data-out bandwidth limit. I'm still looking into what the biggest drainer is, but I might have to get people to download their forum sigs and host them elsewhere. Thoughts?

Ezz 1,770 Share Posted July 12, 2018 I've only managed one instance of 'why am I doing a 1080?' on HK so far. Is it something that gets worse during HK peak?
Ezz 1,770 Share Posted July 12, 2018 Side note but looks like we get free prem for a little while at least. So while the locals are at least trying to compensate, you get the feeling a bit of testing could have helped.
Ezz 1,770 Share Posted July 12, 2018 Love tan, when asked re server performance spends all of a minute to research and simply responds with servers being huge etc.. You'd think in a situation where they are already under the bus that he'd be a little more contrite.
Otto-matic Reiffel 148 Share Posted July 13, 2018 Tan is a PR man. He'll avoid answering any questions that might make WG look bad directly.

I've had one game a night with some packet loss. Very much during peak so could be the problem of serving football matches for 6 players as opposed to games for 30. I do seem to have a little desync with shooting though. I've killed and been killed in situations where the visuals do not have the gun on target.
Ezz 1,770 Share Posted July 13, 2018 The tan theory which he admits he's trying to translate from techies, is that some packets are routing direct, while others are going via fk nose where, resulting in the desyncs. I am not sure on the logic, but i guess it would explain some of it. Personally tho i suspect server load (and bandwidth capacity) over a long period would not be painting the picture we'd need. Something like 'time at >90% utilisation' i suspect would give a truer picture as even if rare, it's those moments that really impact things. Ie if server load is 20% on average, that doesn't mean it can't spike to >90% for short periods.
Otto-matic Reiffel 148 Share Posted July 13, 2018 Load balancing on the route might do it. If normal upstream router is very busy, route packet elsewhere.

This might help (or not) explain what Tan's techs are telling him: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/15601389/if-tcp-is-connection-oriented-why-do-packets-follow-different-paths The only problem with this is how to compare HK to the SGP experience. I'm not a networking dude, but wouldn't the same thing have happened for traffic with the old server? Sure I noticed the odd packet loss with SPG, but not that much. If the same thing happened with SGP server then why are we noticing it more now? Any idea why the move in the first place? Cheaper hosting (and cheaper hardware, lel)?
Ezz 1,770 Share Posted July 13, 2018 Perhaps there were fewer routing options for packets for Sg. Given I've already had two very different routes (6 hopper vs 17 hopper) to HK I suspect that may be causing it.

Politx_Killer 803 Share Posted July 16, 2018 I got roughly 200-240ms to NA but it was stable as fuck. Whats the ping to HK?
spacewolf 92 Share Posted July 16, 2018 somewhere between 180-200. Packet loss is ok, some moments of concern but generally ok. I'd try to compare it to NA but I'd be suffering from the grass is greener syndrome.
Va1heru 1,725 Share Posted July 16, 2018 I get 140-160ms on HK from Darwin. Noticeable packet loss at times but I think that has to do with my routing not been optimised just yet. Same shit teams and meta so I'll stick to my 20 minute queue times on ANZ
