played some games with my eldest son who's a 47%'er who hasn't played in months. So took the oppty to do some missuns. First off a shout out to @RainbowCat for letting us get the last (need 4) kill. Had a tough scrap on the 1/2 line on abbey, I died in the tiger 1 but Thomas held on on the AT15, it was him vs about 3 of them at the end, but favourable map conditions for the AT. They tried to storm him from the front, but he wiped out the other two and took chunks out of the FV, who pulled back a bit. Anyway, I was telling Thomas what to do and he got the FV - the guy was probably like "WTF? Orange playa?" Lol.

Anyway, ended the session on %60. o7 teal shitters.

After getting off the hype train of Hearts of Iron 4 , I'm starting to see tons of stuff I don't like , 

(incoming rant)

a shit ton of generals were removed , mainly generals that never made it to the rank field marshal , and the system that replaced it was one where there were only 2 ranks were available , general and field marshal , and the only difference is the number of units they can command , like what's the point of having them? And promoting one EVEN removes the combat bonuses that a general has , eg Panzer Leader : 10% when commanding armor units. 

Another thing that amazed me the skill level of some generals , Walter Model starts off with SKILL LEVEL ONE , the guy who hold off soviet attacks for months when germany was losing , while we have Sepp Dietrich who has skill level 4 , and couldn't even read a military map , what the fuck.

And then , to my amazement , I saw the recruitment thingy for new generals , I was like "FUCK YES" , ONLY TO FUCKING FIND OUT ITS SHITTY GENERIC GENERALS THAT ARE REPEATED , I DON'T WANT MY OKW TO HAVE MANNERHEIM IN THEM , I DON'T WANT THE SAME 3 SHITTY GENERALS AND ADMIRALS , I want Schorner , Armin , I WANT THE REAL VON KLEIST THAT DOESN'T HAVE SKILL LEVEL 1 , Ernst Busch , Reichenau , and all the generals that was available , it so immersive , but now they had to take it away.....

And then we have the combat system , holy fuck , there's a new thing called battle plans that basically , gives objectives and directions to an army/combat group on what to do and how to complete it , and even gives a 50% bonus during combat , what a fucking lazy thing to do , not only did they over simplify it , they even made it broken , it works too well , I managed to beat the soviet union during winter when outnumbered 1 to 3 , AND SOMETIMES IT WORKS LIKE SHIT , I nearly lost to fucking Italy as the UK when I tried it in Italy , sending my armor units to the mountains , only to get shit on by mountaineer divisions , I lost 500 tanks before I even realised that I was fighting a losing battle , pushing back the front from Rome all the way back to Sicily. 

Oh , and there's more.....but I'll probably hit the word limit....

But , like all paradox games , they will always patch things up until it's a great game , hopefully , still though... I felt this game to be way too simple...

i agree with what you have said but the combat system is more complex than you might think.

mountaineers become extremely important in hill terrain and will pretty much stomp anything when their holding hills with the right support equipment,

a few small things

- when your advancing into terrain that gives big defensive bonuses (hills, jungle, beachheads) always be sure to have air superiority and some Close air support at hand, this really helps to break the enemy defenses

-dont rely on the offensive line system to much, its good to set one to give your troops an idea of where to go but they advance very slowly and sometimes i find they get bad pathing issues, your better of setting an offensive plan then keeping  around 5 divisions of tanks/ motorized/ mech divisons for your self to manually encircle and delete enemy divisions

-smaller armies you can keep equipped are better than big armies you industry will struggle to supply

-logistics is really important when you start playing asian countries, your almost always fighting in low supply terrain, when playing japan i learnt to focus on any logistics, attrition, supply bonuses i could find, it helps your jap campaign immensely, especially when you inevitably get dragged into the soviet union and have to push a couple thousand miles across siberia. and pretty much any land you take you have to build up yourself

some other broken stuff i have noticed

-the AI reich/italy are fucking useless i have never seen them survive, this is primarily because they do not ever focus the UK after they take the continent. they do really well early game then get stomped every single time by UK, US and the soviets, the axis needs modifiying to focus on going for the UK. im sick of seeing the UK beachhead in italy and taking it while the italians just lie down

- the AI is pretty bad at fighting on big fronts and they tend to spread themselves really thin without trying to force a breakthrough in key areas

-offensive line pathing is slow and sometines the units just sit there with no enemy in front of them

-the AI overall needs a lot of buffs to their unit momevemt/ placement on veteran, which i what i play it ands its still easy

So I have finally retired from tanks for good........... but even still find myself checking in here to see the going on's.

I'm close to packing it in as well.  Played 4 games yesterday.  Three horrific losses where my team either good or bad just collapsed horribly. 

In the 4th when only 4 of the team moved more than one square from spawn on Serene Coast I loaded HE went back to spawn and went on a team damage rampage until i got an hour off.

Temporary pack in best pack in. I don't even really have a reason why i stopped playing. Maybe it was arty being such a shit thing to play, or maybe it was the lack of goals.

On that the arty missions were kinda fun, but you can't seem to do any more before choosing a chick for 15.1, so i was stuck there too. Choice is hard after all.

Arty missions not helping.  Been on 15.2 for an age.  The week before it was unlocked I did it four times in three different arty.  Since it became the only mission I need to complete I can't do it.

I  missed SPG 15.3 by 15 xp to a light tank on my team.

So close....

But i've found that i'm not enjoying the game quite as much as before.

Playing football mode and seeing tomatoes aimbot their way through the game just pretty much killed it for me.

Out of interest i played a few more, and the amount of people running these bots is just staggering.

RE Goals, @Ezz, I guess that's the great thing about being average - it means I still have lots of things I can work towards Smile-tongue.gif 

I do wonder about the "play for fun" crowd though, I think I get where some of them are coming from, even if they are crap at articulating it... Let's use watching the TV as a metaphor.

  • Usually when I watch the TV/YouTube it's with a specific purpose, i.e to watch a specific DVD, program, whatever.
  • But sometimes I just want to veg out, I don't care so much about what's on; the bar for entry is much much lower, but it's still there.

Tonks is like that too: 

  • In general times I play to win - i.e. I'm consciously wanting to win, improve my stats, etc.  
  • Sometimes I just want some fun tonk time.  I'm not after mastery games, purple stats n stuff, I just want to shoot thing sand not feel like I'm getting shafted.

You guys must surely feel like I do sometimes - you just want some "relaxing" fun tonk time?  Sometimes I get a hankering for something like "hmmm a big HT scrap in a city map would be fun" (only to be thrown into prok, bottom tier, with a million SPGs).

The issue is that Fun tonk time is still subject to RNG: and you don't need me to enumerate all the ways that fun tonk time can get shafted.

It probably varies for the individual, but the assertion that having decent stats means someone doesn't play for fun is pretty off the mark. I've known excellent players who embody play for fun completely, while at the same time seen pubbies raging like nothing else only to discover they're 46% numpties.

Hello anyone playing SandBox test server here ? 

My Impressions after several battles there is it's kind of very pleasant experience.

First of all about Super Heavies Tanks (E100, Maus, Type 5 Heavy). Because the meds no longer could pen it from distance, no premium ammo. These class got the most benefit from all the class. And moreover I don't scared anymore to make some breakthough with my Super Heavies. Oww and about arty, I'm glad that they don't have the high pen and alpha as well to punish heavy tank so bad. But The arty debuff is a bit OP there since it takes too long for it to get back to normal state after being shot by arty. But, the current state of the game in SandBox promotes Heavies to go brawl close quarter combat which is odd. I can't give some measurements about the medium or light class because the ping that I have. But In my opinion they need to overhaul the map design to make this things works well. Like less corridor map but still there's some cover for Heavies to keep their flanks safe.

 

And what annoys me a lot is the 183 is complete disaster. Why would they buff their aim time such like that. 183 is now become the monster that every single super Heavies affraid of. This is not good at all. I just don't know how they'll fix it but the current state that 183 have, it's rather OP.

 

And the last thing. BC 155. It's complete broken arty now. Just remove the auto loader already. It's awfull. I just can't stand the clip loading time. And what makes it worst. Sometimes it do no damage, NO FUCKING DAMAGE !!!! FUCK IT. !!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK THIS ARTY MAN !!!. Hah that's why I stop playing this arty.

He does raise the underlying issue... you can fk with your view ranges and accuracy only so much, but if your maps are still corridors, you'll still have corridor gameplay.

Maybe sandbox was WG's cunning way to stop people talking about the issues with their game...

Create sandbox to lure them in.

Create NDA to stop people talking about it.

 

I like it. Good news is it's only those that were lured in that can't talk about it.

Even more so if you just have two teams of 10 superheavies lobbing rounds at each other with no useful visioning for lights, no flanking chances for mediums, nerfed and ineffectual arty and TDs with no line of sight or view range.

Enough maps already suffer from this without them buffing heavies for the shitters who can only hurr-durr I'm a heavy and nerfing medium mobility.

Still they were pretty explicit that they would be trying a few things out before having an answer so hopefully this is V1 and they will try a different balance in V2.

NB: Not in Sandbox so not breaching any NDA.
