Marder 38t Appreciation Thread

So, I totally fell in love with this thing when I started making my way up the new German TD line. Why is there no thread for it?

If you like the T49, you'll love this little thing.

 

Really, it feels a lot like a T49. While it doesn't have a turret, it has epic traverse angles, is decently fast and has a good view range and camo value.

The gun is really good for a tier 4 too. It has nearly the same DPM as the T49 (same ROF, 5 less alpha with AP), slightly better aim time and much better accuracy.

Depression is good, but elevation is kinda sad.

 

Being a low tier sealclubber, it also prints top gun awards, and it's an excellent WN8/wr padding machine.

 

It has no problems dealing with tier 6 tanks either, which is the highest the MM will throw it against:

Too bad it only carries 38 shells, those won't last long with that rate of fire.

It's funny how the line slowly degrades from the 38T going through tier 5 to tier 7, each a tad worse than the predecessor.  I am having a horrendous time with the tier 7, which has nothing stock going for it but absurd gun depression.  That being said, the tier 8-10 are just as lovely as the tier 4, so it's a fair price to pay.

In the short time I owned it, I really did come to like it but I needed to make room for other tanks forcing me to sell it. Hopefully I can buy it back again soon. It's got great accuracy even with a bad crew, good mobility. Reminded me of the marder II pre nerf

I like the 38T even if I basically never play it.  It's good for it's tier with some mobility & a good gun.

 

However, you can't compare the 38T to the T49.  The T49 is a turreted killing machine.  It's super fast & can easily take over a game.  If the T49 gets into a tier 5 match, I'm fullying expecting 4 or more kills & I'm disappointed if I don't get a top gun.  The T49 can appear anywhere on the battlefield & within minutes be on the other side.  IMO, the T49 is the best tier 5 in the game.  The T49 can rush any opening in the enemy line during end-game.  The T49 can scout (not ideal use but, it can), the T49 can flank, the T49 can snipe.  The 38T just doesn't campare.

 

I've found the 38T to be a nice sniper with the ability to relocate on the battlefield.  The gun is good for it's tier & the tank can influence the outcome. 

 

When I unlocked the toaster td, it was a painful change from the 38t.  The toaster got much better with the top gun but, it still is a hide in cover & snipe td.

The T49 is a mobile, stealthy DPM-monster, which is just what the 38t is. The T49 is better at almost everything, but it's also a tier higher.

In my opinion the T49 is just more fun to play, due to its sheer zippiness and the turret, but I can definitely see the marder's higher carry potential as a tier 4.

The tank is good, but the problem is with the tier. A bunch of suicide Pz1c zerglings will ruin your day in no time.

Comparing it to the T49 is apples and oranges.

 

Compare it to the SU85B.

 

Armor and speed are comparable. 

Gun - Marder wins on handling traverse depression and ROF.  SU wins on Pen and Damage.

Camo - I believe marder has the edge while the SU has better view range so its a toss up there.

 

I enjoy playing both, and they both pub stomp well up to tier 6

Sure, this tank is a real pleasure to play, even with a stock crew.

Played it intensively this week end and after 54 games and the x2 exp crew experience, I'm already at 50% on 1st skill.

Can't wait to get the 6th sense, as 10% of my early deaths were related to a bad evaluation of my visibility but still a decent 67% wr

on almost full solo games. Ofc better players can expect much more.

Actually Nashorn at tier 6 is pretty good. But I agree that tier 7 is awful, I am even unable to do my daily doubles in it because I hate it so much.

The tenk is stronk and great wn8 padder. The SU-85 b is better though and can even carry t6 battles.
