The Lee is underrated.

I really like mine. The Crew in mine are almost to their third spec.

While I did better in the PZ3 (57%) and the T-28 (55%), I enjoyed the Lee (54%) the most of the three.  I remember that for the the last half of my T-28 games, I'd start each one, look at the tank across from me and wish I was in the Lee.  In fact, I briefly considered maintaining it, but I didn't have many garage slots back then.

The bigger issue is the difference in power between tier 4's and 6's (and the lower level of player) that make tier 4 tanks in general less fun to play.

I only see Lees get 1HKO'd by 10.5 derps.  The only way for it to bring it's DPM to bear in a meaningful way is to have some relaible spotting, which is rare in low tiers.

The lee is a tank where you can't make things happen on your own, you need your team for it, and it's a tier 4 tanks, the combination of those 2 things makes it a bad tank.

I remember my experience in it being painful but finished with ~55% WR in it.

The armor will bounce the hell out of a lot of guns on Tier 3 tanks. A Pz1C going after a Lee might as well be going after a Maus.

Miracles happen. gg, but that thing remains awful in my eyes. 40% win after 100 matches, I bought it again to grind the T1 two weeks ago... never again. The last matches went like this: oneshotted by arty, oneshotted by a derp. Oneshotted by arty, oneshotted by a derp... should I go on? I free exped what I still had to grind it to avoid even one more match on that piece of turd. Most idiotic tank ever, the Russians were right to sing that song...

"The Red Army met the M3 Medium without excessive happiness". The tankers themselves made a song about it:

"America gifted Russia
An M3 medium
It's loud, but pointless,
and as tall as the sky"

Pointless and as tall as the sky. That sums it up pretty nicely. Every time I see a lee they have priority over other useless low tiers. They should suffer as much as I did.

Lee can be 3-shotted by a duck, so maybe not terrible, but good either.

The Duck has a few flaws, like low pen and horsepower, but low alpha for its tier is not one of them; nothing wrong with 110 damage at Tier 4 at all.

The Lee is a terrible, terrible tank. The thing is a mockery of a tank. That being said, it's also got a FREAKING AWESOME gun on it, for tier 4. Rocking 64% win rate on it.

That being said, I have no idea how. It's armor is pretty sad. It's profile is massive. Good luck NOT hitting one if you're shooting at it. You can't hull down in it. By all rights, other than the gun, it's a pretty terrible tank. But that gun is so sexy. Pity I absolutely loathe the tank :(

Indeed, I kind of liked the Duck both times I ran it, provided it was tiered decently. If it had it's horsepower doubled to give it a bit more speed it would be very good for a tier 4.

The way to use the Lee is to ignore everyone else.  It is an assault gun, get in close, use your fast hull traverse and wide gun traverse + fast ROF to ruin fools.

I elited the Lee, including unlocking the Priest from it, and after 179 battles I had a 60% winrate and it remains one of my highest tank specific eff and damage vehicles, because when you don't play like a pussy the Lee is actually Captain Badass.

The Lee is a pleasure if you have not played a Stuart or similarly nimble tank - just play it like a TD with no camo ability. Not a keeper but more of a scrapper. Scrap it ASAP and move on the the next level.

Why would you even post this when several much better players have said its a good tank?

Including the one right above your post.

The biggest problem with the Lee (and most tier4) is the MM. There are alot more tier 5 players in the MM mix then 4, so your Lee is often fighting higher tiers.

Could you or someone else expand on this a little (or a lot)?

I HATE this tank, and it hates me, but I'm not going to burn free xp to bypass it. I've already suffered through it once but I'm going back because I want the T-29 with the 90mm to start with so I HAVE to tolerate it.

A couple of notes, and my reason for asking:

I also happen to suck in the SU-122-44 which seems to me to play very similarly to the lee. Yes, night/day. I get that, but something about both of those tanks just gets on my nerves. They just feel... clumsy, overly large... hard to put into words.

It's not the lack of turret. I can actually get around that. I do fine in most of the turretless TDs, so the maneuvering part is a bit of a pain, but I can adapt.

I just can NOT figure out how the hell to play this tank, and your comment is the first time I've ever heard anyone say to play a "TD" (yes, I know it's technically a medium) in this fashion.

One other P.S. somehow I managed to pull an Ace badge in this monstrosity, on HIMMELSDORF....ffs.

. I only have 3... how? I mean... how? lulz.

How do Captain Badass preez?

Try to stay in the second line. You should be able to shred anything in your tier due to the good pen and DPM, but of course be careful around anything mounting a derp gun, like a T40, Hetzer, T82, etc. Seriously, the gun will melt other tanks. Not quite like a Pz1C, but 2200 DPM at Tier 4 is murderous, and the gun has the accuracy, aim time and pen to make that 2200 viable in reality.

The Lee can play well if run by a smart player who knows its weaknesses. A lee needs to let others spot then roll out of cover to inflict the damage followed by immediate pullback to cover. Lee drivers who do not keep tall hard cover close at hand do not perform well.

I have been playing the Lee and the grind hasn't been near as bad as I thought it would. I'm doing fairly well in it I think. I already researched the T1 and am currently working on the M4. Not sure how many battles I have in it though. I'll use some of the comments here to explain how I've played it:

At the beginning of a match (Even if top tier):

  • Play it like a TD - If the map permits I try and find cover where I can hide pretty much everything but the gun.
  • Try to stay in the second line - Support the mobile Meds and Heavies. Good pen and DPM, Always keep an eye on the mini in case something breaks thru and you need to react/relocate.

Mid/Late game and winning:

  • It is an assault gun, get in close, use your fast hull traverse and wide gun traverse + fast ROF to ruin fools. Be sure to check enemy tank comp though, if there are enemy derps let others spot and shoot from afar.

Mid/Late game and losing:

  • Play it like a TD - If the map permits I try and find cover where I can hide pretty much everything but the gun. Do what you can, take as many of them with you as possible!
