T30 - What to Expect

Recommended Posts

So, I'm getting close to finishing up the T28P. It started out horrible, and although the speed is still a terrible downfall of the tank, I'm actually enjoying it more with all the modules and the top gun unlocked.

What I'd like to get a feel for is what to expect out of the T30. It looks to me like it's more of a Heavy Tank with low HP and a big fuck-off gun than it is a TD.

So is it a frontline hull down fighter? Should I still be trying to stay unspotted in the back in a support role?

Can I mount the big gun on the stock tracks?

Would love some overall advice on the tank and couldn't find a thread dedicated to the T30.

Play it like a soft heavy, and play support from close range. I wouldn't recommend sniping from far because RNG just loves to crap on the T30, and the aim time, dispersion and accuracy will all throw your shots off course.

I haven't played a T34 - this is my farthest tank up that American lines and don't have the American premium.

But basically, I'm hearing play it like a normal American heavy. Stay behind the frontlines and try and keep my hull protected while using the big alpha. Any idea if it can mount the big gun on stock tracks? I did a quick calculation and it looks like you can, but then won't have any weight left for modules.

Its literally a T34. Have you played a T34? Expect the same exact thing.

this^

except expect the 155 to troll you at every range, even your best aimed shots at point blank range have terrible ADHD issues and like to go chasing after birds and moles..  once in a while it seems to remember it's meds and behaves..      but when it doesn't............

and you may be able to mount the 155 with stock tracks, but you won't want to without the suspension upgrade..  unless you enjoy playing without a rammer or GLD (hint..  you won't) :$

It's incredibly slow, has weak armor (even the turret) for its tier, and the gun handling on the 155mm will make you want to hang yourself

Still a little more playable than the T95 because it's not balls to the wall slow and has a turret

Is it really still that bad after the 8.6 dispersion changes? What you're describing sounds like the BL-10 on the ISU prior to the changes.

the pre buff bl-10 is a good description..  the 155 used to ghost shells constantly before the accuracy increase..   now it just does it a little less often

The T30 is a whimsically delightful tank. Well, it's delightful if you enjoy whimsy, because the gunner sure does. I love mine (as a quick glance at my vehicles list will show), but the gun is decidedly unpredictable. I had a match tonight, sniping from the south side of center on south coast - first six shots hit, last six (fully aimed) shots did not. It was a good round.

As for mounting the gun - from what I've seen, the tank is surprisingly viable with the 120mm, so don't rush.

The most important thing to know about how to play the T30: don't fire until the server-side reticle finishes settling.

T30s turret is a tad bit stronger than the T34's turret

as in its top doesnt get overmatched by 120mm guns, so you literally have to hit the small cheeks at a good angle or cupola

I've had so many bounce a T30s top turret when it would've penned a 34s with ease..

I've just got into it myself, still running the 120mm.  It's quite the fun little tank.  Top gun on my 1st game in it.  The 155 is the goal, but the 120 is perfectly usable in the interim; the DPM and gun handling are excellent.

T30 (after being nerfed 3-4x) is still an alright tank. It's slow as molasses but as long as you can get hull down somewhere, you'll be a menace with the 155mm. The 120mm is very usable but contradicts the playstyle of this tank, which is minimal exposure

What about the triangle above the mantlet?

I've played hundreds of battles in the T34 and it's my most comfortable tier 8 premium. The playstyle is wonderfully simple and the turret is quite reliable as long as I limit exposure. So I think I would enjoy the T30.

I 100% agree.  To get your shots near perfect, let the reticle settle for an extra 1/2-1 second.  Makes all the difference.  Since I started letting it do this, my shots are a lot more consistent.

This is excellent advice. I've found myself playing the T30 similar to how I've been playing my KV-2. Very patiently. This is not a tank to play when you're upset or in a Rambo-mood. You'll have the best luck as a support sniper who only shows their face to blat someone for 800 damage a few times a minute.

Also, the T30 is the tank that made me realize how many other stats (soft and hard) I'm willing to sacrifice just to have a turret.
