Map reviews: Erlenberg and Redshire by Oneechan

Recommended Posts

Spoilers: Severogorsk will have a grand total of 5 marks on the minimap

Thye changes havent helped it much IMO. But then again I havent had enough time to check it out.

How abou hidden village. I hate it because its one giant Arty alley way with a town thats impossible to do well in. If they just built a hill dividing hidden village the entire length it would make tanks have to commit to town to get sideshots.

I seriously think for the most part I could make better maps.

I really am looking forward to new Komarin

I'm curious what you think of the clump of trees/bushes on the ridge between (4) and (6) (on Redshire).  When I spawn north, it's the place that to me feels most comparable to the south's position at (1).  You can give supporting fire to the eastern brawl if they push up far enough or try flanking over the crown of the hill, and you have shots at (1) and (7) if any enemies are lit there.  If the enemy win the east, you can get some punishing shots on them as they begin to push up from it, and still have time to retreat back to (6), and if your team wins the east, you can push up with them or relocate to the main hill to prop up that side.

Nice review Oneeechan. Some comments on Redshire:

  • As with some others, I've never found east that significant from my experience. It feels very easy to repulse an attack after they pass the choke at 4/5.
  • The hills on K7 and K0 can make life hard for North-spawn heavies trying to push past position 5 if a few tanks retreat to G9 and give vision. K0 is more effective if the player can make good use of the bushes there and not get spotted when firing, but K7 is more accessible for flexing from position 2. Some reds still like to camp on K7 early game even though it's useless.
  • Likewise, position 6 + 8 can make life hard for South-spawn heavies trying to push past C9. B8 is still an effective old school defensive position with fire support from the hills.
  • For north spawn, D7 gives vision for tanks climbing to position 2. The bushes allow for shots on tanks spotted on position 2 and and for tanks pushing aggressively to position 7. There is little to no hard cover though, so knowing how to use the bushes is a must, as is the discretion to leave when things go badly. Only lights and mediums with good camo can survive here.

Those are the words of a blue, but I feel that they reflect how things are on the SEA server. Hope they are helpful.

Don't like Hidden Village either, but I'll have to do it eventually

I went back and added in the marks on the minimap like you guys wanted, and for future articles it will be that way as well

Thanks much!

In my experience (MM doesn't roll this map a lot for me) on EU server Erlenberg game-play goes like this:

South spawn pushes East side, only few tanks (3-4) go West and usually die there. The same mirrored scenario occurs for North spawn, where most tanks push West side, crushing the small opposition there. Effectively this maps then turns into the old Erlenberg where the spawns were divided by the river and anybody who dared to cross was shot to shit. It is a bit more dynamic now, if pubbies gain a lot of momentum after their initial push, they will cross the Norht/South bridge together and usually win the game.

This is word-by-word how Erlenberg always goes for me

Luckily I get the south spawn more often than not so I win most of my games, and half of my amazing games in the E 50/E 50 M are on that map

Where exactly do u go in E50? Not by that east hill as depression isnt enough. Do you go right or left of church? I understand lke a 140 or other strong turret tank doing amazing but E50 seems like  using elevated hills would still leave turret massively exposed to HEAT

I would think E50 would be bad since it doesnt have STB Leo depression or Hard turret.

Also, One thing I wanted to add is field on south spawn is actually a viable spot in some cases. Things like FCM like it because you can keep range and the uneven ground makes it semi hull down.

When the enemy rushes the church and is worried about spot 1 and spot 2 I sit back in field and shoot there sides. Also you can shoot all the way through to the back hill.

This is where I could see the usefulness of the E50`s laser.

I peek on the west hill, aka spot marked 1 in the review

If you want a replay of how I do it, here's one

For the north spawn, I try my luck on either hill depending on the setup

Lots of heavies and I go east, lots of mediums and I go west

Good game. You got lucky your buddies went other side or they would have soaked up way to much DMG :)

I don't get the east brawl spot on redshire.  Sometimes I go there, but after you win it it's like k now what?  trying to move up is like pushing the wrong side on Komarin :c (quick death/ lotsa hp loss), unless all or most of their campers (K5ish+mid) are dead.

That's why I said in my post that EU's got a really fucked up Redshire meta. In the same time that meat grinder brawl fest happen, I can win the west flank and therefore win the hill and have complete map control.

please do more of these. Format and information provided are clear and concise. Not too busy nor too sparse.  Very good and well written, easy for even a nub like me to grasp +1

Amen, I'll join in burning a candle or two in thanks
